I was having a similar problem, but only once every couple weeks. I reflowed all the solder on my remote last weekend and it's been great since, but it's only been a couple days, so I'm not sure if it's fixed yet.
EDIT: Dang, beat me to it!

When my remote did what yours was doing, the main root cause was THE 12 VDC Battery!! Mine was 5 years old and had issues.
Have your battery fully tested and see if it has the correct rated Cold cranking amperage and reserve capacity.
When you CRANK the engine, the starter draws LOTS of current. Voltage is inversely proportional to current. That means that if you stick a DC Volt meter on the battery terminals and have someone CRANK THE ENGINE; you will most likely see the battery voltage drop really low. NOT GOOD on an engine and electrical system that depends heavily on proper voltage.
If your battery is weak, it will allow the 12 VDC B+ circuit and HOT at ALL times circuit to drop low out of spec. When that happens, you will see your average fuel mileage reset, other memory settings reset. HUD display reset to factory display etc.....
Give that a shot and see if that is your issue
OH, a weak battery will still start the engine just fine and have this issue.
Another area that you should examine is the under hood grounds
Bill, just to clarify your statement, if you have two remotes and one works properly and the other one has the symptoms in the OP's post, that would eliminate the possibility of of a weak battery and/or bad grounds. Correct????
