Yesterday my C5 temp hit 264 and the DIC sent up a warning along with a chime and a red light on the speedo face. Odd since I am in Oregon and the air temp was only about 72F. I was in light traffic.
I have had my 99 C5 since 08 and have put about 60k on her including many trips down south, Vegas, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana in 100+ weather and this has never happened before....not even close. The water pump, thermostat, hoses, belts and coolant were all changed with Delco parts in 2011, about 18k ago.
After reading many posts about C5 overheating on CF yesterday, this morning I pulled the CAI and radiator shroud and pressure washed the radiator and condenser, checked the coolant, both hoses.....all seems fine. Took her out for a two hour drive on twisty roads and a 2k altitude change. She ran at 205-209 with top temp of 212 lugging up an incline most of the time with the AC running. But the temps today barely broke 70 with light rain.....hardly a good heat test.
I didn't burp it as the coolant system has not been opened up since 2011 so I don't see why it would develop an air bubble yesterday.
I would still burp the system I didn't open my system for years and it developed massive air bubbles and did the exact same thing. These system are known for issues like that. its easy just grab the tiny hose in the top of the rad that connects to below the TB. off with the clamp pull the hose. open the reservoir (after making sure it has plenty of fluid and i would be completely shocked if it didn't have air. I don't know why they randomly aquire air over time but they tend to. both my c5 and my buddies c6 did the exact same thing.
So this AM I burped it from the left head location, let about a quart come out. Didn't hear any air but it is now done. The upper hose was not sucked together in the center. Also got a new cap and topped off the tank with fresh 50/50 Dexcool.
I checked the fans yesterday and they both turn on when they are supposed to and will go to high with the AC on. The oil was just changed about 1k ago with Mobil 1 and it looks and smells fine.
Will drive her today, as usual, as she is a DD and see what happens now as temps will only be in the high 60s, low 70s with chance of rain ;^( .Guess our Oregon summer is over......it was a nice one this year.
Thanks again,
Well I just got back from about 2 hours of driving a mix of surface streets and freeway.
From overnight cold to 200d took 5 minutes at about 20-45 mph non stop driving with an outside temp of 72d with the AC on. Driving around town w/AC temps stayed in the 205-208 range...pretty much the same as yesterday's drive so the burp didn't seem to change things.
