Default Tire pressure sensor question.

Bought some 04 magnesium wheels and tires for my 01 C5. Tire sensors were working fine. In the meantime, I had my old HRE rims with the sensors at Firestone getting the tires taken off the rims. Yesterday I brought the HRE rims back home and placed them in the garage CLOSE to the C5. This morning I get in the C5 to go to work and my tire sensors are NOT working at all. Shows 0 pressure. Now from what I have read, it has something to do with me putting the old rims and sensors close to the C5. But here is the problem. I get to work and try to reset the tire sensors(do a relearn) and they will not relearn. What gives?

TPMSs are tricky, I'm finding.
I'm having a lot of issues that I'm thinking are tpms so I ordered new ones(used car, description in my sig, 64500 miles).

Sorry I'm no help, just wanted you to know you're not alone in this(tpms)mess.

How are you programming the sensors? What magnet are you using and where are you placing the magnet during the programming??

I am using a mechanics round magnet that fits around the valve stem. I have tried placing the magnet on the inside of the rim and moving it around to several areas around the valve stem.
And I am using the DIC to reprogram.
Thanks

Pull up the TPS program and try setting the magnet on TOP of the sensor. That will be just inboard of the valve stem.

Also make SURE that your other wheels are not anywhere near your car.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that several times. If I disconnect the battery, would that clear the other sensors out of the system? I am still reading 0 pressure from the old rims and sensors.
Thanks

My valve stems are metal. How do I make sure the rims have sensors?

Thanks. I looked at my sensors on my HRE's, and my magnesium rims have the same stem as in the pictures.

Got my hands on a MAC tire sensor scanner, and it says that sensors are not found. But the stems are identical to the sensors on my HRE wheels. Maybe the batteries are dead. Oh well.

OP, do your tpms register on the DIC? Mine register but with goofy pressures but the tech at Discount Tire couldn't get anything with some tool they had at the shop. Also, if I go to fuel and check mpg it looks reasonable but if I move forward one I think it's instant mpg and it hops around crazy, wide swings(13, 24, 31, 12.9).

I increased the pressure from 30 to 33 and will seehow it performs.

Mine show 0 pressure in all 4 tires!

When I started my tires had 30 in each. I ran them up to 33 and cleared all codes and it sat for a day or two.
I just drove a mile or two, nothing over 45, and I got no codes(at first)but tire pressures read 30. At the endorsed my tour I got service engine soon. I parked, got my playbook(computer)and will begin to explore. I think I liked it better before the SES light or whatever it was.

I'll be back in a few.

I only got two "new" codes and they were both Hs: C1281 VSES, Sensors Uncorrected, and B0441, left actuator out of range.

No mention of the Service Motor Soon or whatever it was.

I will continue to play with this as time allows and appreciate all the ideas you guys are sharing.

No codes. I unhooked the battery and drove the car around and all four tires were showing blank, no zeros or x's! I am shipping the HRE rims tomorrow and I will try again after the old sensors are out of the garage.

8VETTEZ, I received no tpms codes, only low tire pressure on the rears.

After I cleared the codes this afternoon I got no low tire pressure signs but when I checked tire pressure on the DIC I got false readings.

Tomorrow I will tryto zero/reset the tpms per the manual.

Maybe important maybe not but I have staggered runflats. Maybe whoever set them up just threw the sensors in and called it good?

It was suggested I check with Tire and Wheel Connection about tpms. Do you think they would be capable of resetting these(the magnet thing)?

ANYONE and even YOU can use a magnet to TRAIN the Tire Pressure Sensors. Look in your Service Manual:

Tire Pressure Sensor Learn
Tools Required
J 41760 Tire Pressure Sensor Activating Tool

TPM Learn Mode Description
The Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) system uses the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR), body control module (BCM), driver information center (DIC), 4 radio frequency transmitting pressure sensors, and the serial data circuit to perform the TPM learn mode functions. The sensor learn procedure must be performed after a tire pressure sensor, or RCDLR replacement. Once the learn mode has been enabled, each of the sensors unique identification (Id) codes can be learned into the RCDLR's memory. After the RCDLR has received a sensor transmission, it sends a serial data message to the BCM to sound a horn chirp. This verifies the sensor has transmitted its Id and the RCDLR has received and learned it. The RCDLR must learn each sensor's Id in the proper order to determine sensor location. The first learned Id is assigned to the left front location, the second to right front, the third to right rear, and forth to left rear.

Sensor Functions
Each sensor has am internal magnetic reed switch. When the J 41760 sensor activating tool is held close to the sensor, the reed switch closes, activating the sensor. The sensor responds to a magnetic activation by transmitting in learn mode. When the RCDLR receives a learn mode transmission while in TPM learn mode, it will assign that sensor Id to the location on the vehicle relative to the order in which it was learned.

TPM Learn Mode Cancellation
The RCDLR will cancel the TPM learn mode if the ignition is turned OFF, more than 1 minute has passed and no sensor Ids have been learned, or if more than 5 minutes have passed for the entire procedure. If the learn mode is cancelled before any sensor Ids are learned, the RCDLR will remember all previously stored Ids and their locations. As soon as the RCDLR learns the first sensor Id, all previously stored Ids are erased from the RCDLR's memory.

Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Press the DIC RESET button in order to clear any warning messages.
Press and release the OPTIONS button until the display is blank.
Press and hold the RESET button for 3 seconds.

Important
If the DIC does not display the TIRE TRAINING message, ensure the TPM option is enabled in the RCDLR. Refer to Scan Tool Output Controls .

Press and release the OPTIONS button until TIRE TRAINING is displayed.
Press and release the RESET button and LEARN L FRONT TIRE is displayed, verifying the mode has been enabled.

Important
If a horn chirp does not sound after 15 seconds, remove then reinstall the sensor activating tool.

Starting at the left front sensor, hold the J 41760 over the valve stem until a horn chirp sounds.
After the horn chirp sounds, proceed as in step 7 for the next 3 sensors in the following order:
Right front
Right rear
Left rear
Turn the ignition OFF to exit the learn mode.

I guess the magnesium rims I bought don't have sensors, or the batteries are dead. I am not getting any readings, all 0's. No codes. Tried to relearn and no luck. Thanks for all the replies!

I replaced my old sensors part number 10402716 with a new part number 25981210. All my research indicates the new part number is compatible with the 2000, but all the tire pressures read 9lbs too high. I confirmed the tires are at the correct 30psi. Any suggestions from the gurus?
