Not sure how to ask this...... but what does a broken valve spring sound like? Could it make a ticking noise? Do you loose power? I know my next step is to pull the valve cover.

Reason: incomplete
Do a search on broken valve springs. They've happened a lot; but if it's just "ticking" it may have been cammed, in which case, the springs should be aftermarket.

Having a camshaft that is not the original factory grind. Corvettes have only one, but most cars made these days have between two, and four, depending on the engine configuration.

Most aftermarket cams change the geometry of the pushrod/rocker arm, and you should install new springs. Vettenuts has a good explanation of adjusting your wipe pattern for best results, but most shade tree mechs just install the new components, and torque them to specs, which often results in what's referred to as " sewing machine " sound. Wipe pattern refers to the point where the valve tip contacts the rocker arm.
Here is what mine sounds like with a broken spring on #8:
Really hard to tell from sound, but you should be able to feel loss in power. Mine dynoed at 450ish when it should be 500+. Then again, it is only like 10 min to pull valve cover. Good luck with it.

I removed my valve cover and discovered that the number 5 rocker arm was loose on it's pivot shaft. Upon further examination, I determined that the "keepers" on either side of the shaft had fractured and the rocker arm was just " floating" and my "ticking" sound was the push rod pushing the arm up and hitting the bottom of the pivot shaft. $20.00 fix, whew!
