Early C5's had paper blocker rings and this oil will cause problems, it did with my 1998. I went to Amsoil and it solved problems. I think 2001 was the change date.
I am talking about manual transmissions. C5's use ATF in their manual transmissions.

Yes, I am talking about manual trans as well (hence, the title of the thread).

Well, I hope this doesn't get the thread locked, but I posted here b/c I feel you guys are more tech savvy than others, and it's the same pieces/parts.
It's an '05 Cadillac CTS-V. I'm assuming that being an '05, it would be the newer trans W/O the paper blocker ring...but I don't know for sure. Is it possible that GM used 6 year old trannies in the V? I don't know, but I'm inclined to doubt it. I have the fluid in the car already. If it does cause an issue, what should I look for? What will the symptom be?
Symptoms didn't show up for many thousands of miles, like 20,000 or more. Started to be hard to shift into 6th gear, I knew the synchros were not going, who speed shifts into 6th gear?
You will probably be okay with an 05.
BTW, nice car. I am eyeing the new CTS with the twin turbo V6 (420 HP), might make a good "family" car.

I used Mobil 1 ATF in my 1998 C5 for about 50,000 miles and the transmission started grinding going into 5th and 6th gear. Changed the transmission fluid to Amsoil Torque and it immediately stopped. Now after 30,000 miles it is still okay.
Prior to 2001, the transmissions used paper blocker rings and using synthetic ATF can make them fail to synchronize the gears. Amsoil is an exception, it works.
Update: I now have over 140,000 miles on the car with no trans problems!
Any reason why this might be detrimental to the trans? I"m not asking "what is the best....."
I'm asking, will this stuff harm my trans? Thanks.
The Mobil 1 Synthetic Mult-Vehicle ATF is a synthetic blend. While I wouldn't try to make a case that this could harm your transmission, I personally wouldn't use it. There are enough good full synthetic Dexron III ATFs on the market that I'd find an alternative. The transmission is hard on fluids due to the shear forces and most fluids see a dramatic drop in viscosity as the molecules in the fluid break. Synthetics resist this much better.
Not trying to push the fluid mentioned above, which is what I use in my 02 Z06 at the track, but if you opt to go that way, more than happy to get AMSOIL products for forum members at dealer wholesale pricing, about 25% below retail, via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program.
