Yes i tried the search , to no avail. So will apologize in advance if this has been covered. I was simply curious is there a difference between a regular C5 H-Pipe vs one from a Z06? C5 is a 99 and Z06 is a 03.
For several years, Corvettes sold in California and other states who adopted the CARB standards had pre-cats and cats. To the best of my knowledge, the H-Pipe was located in the same position for all C5's. In 97-99 it was rumored that it cost those vettes about 5 hp, so for 2000 they changed cams to make up the 5 hp since so many were sold in Cali, NY, MA,etc they wanted to ensure the 345 hp for those states. Its been 10-13 yrs since I heard those statements.
There are three or four different mid pipe lengths /configurations. Its mainly due to the exhaust manifold design. They are all the same diameter. The mid pipes are all the same sizes but how they connect to the exhaust manifolds are different. An early 97-98 wont fit a 2000 because the flange at the front of the mid pipe wont match up to the manifold
Don't get hyped up over the C5 H pipe. Its just about worthless. Inside that big cross pipe is a hole the size of a quarter. and its blasted through the pipe with what looks like a torch.
If you want a more efficient exhaust system; add an aftermarket X pipe in place of the H.
Having said that, adding the X pipe isn't going to net you a lot of power. It will change the exhaust note and eliminate some of the gurgling and popping more than increasing power.
That is exactly the info I was looking for! Thank you very much Sir.
