Differential Noise ?

Differential Noise ?
Friends 2001 automatic coupe has a LOUD whining/growl noise at any speed during coast or very light throttle. Diminishes on accel or decel. All the fluids look good, just started suddenly. Only has 28000 miles on it. Any common things to look for? Differential failure common?

And the answer is................
Differential bearings, especially the right side bearing damaged. Gear oil looked good but the magnet in the bottom of the case was LOADED with metal powder. Installed a used differential and sounds good now.

My 3:15 performance axle has 191K and it has been noisy for quite some time. When rebuilt, it will require everything including a new ring/pinion.
Anyone members here had this done? What is the cost?
Lastly, who would be the best places (shop) if I opted to send it out for a professional rebuild?
