I have a 3,000 mile trip to take in two days so I'm attempting to change my oil and find it difficult to find Mobil 1 5/30w! Can I use Havoline syn 5/30w? I don't have time to drive all over Atlanta to find 6 quarts of Mobil. Please advise. :flag
If it meets GM specs it will be ok, but Mobile 1 should be fairly easy to find... even in the more rural area I live in you can get it at Wal-Mart/Target, and all the the AutoZone/AdvancedAutos and such. The 10w30 is fine to use to, I'd use that before switching brands.
Believe it or not I have been to two Wal-marts and and Auto Plus and only found a quart here and there. If I would have purchased all each store had I would have enough for a change but I didn't because I thought I could find a store that had atleast 7 quarts and no such luck. This is insane. Either stores don't stock much of it or it is in high demand.
Havoline Synthetic claims to indeed meet or exceed the GM 4718M specification! I actually found that out on a Havoline web site while doing a Yahoo search of GM4718M. Again 5W-30 is the viscosity called for in the owners manual!! Carry an extra 2 quarts with you also! While I use Mobil One exclusively, I would have no qualms in using the Havoline synthetic. Have a wonderful trip!
I purchased it this morning when I couldn't find any Mobil 1. It was $4.33 a quart so that is a .42 cent savings. Wow! Where will I spend all the extra loot?!

Sam's has Mobil 1 for about $22.00 a case of 6 around here. I don't know if that is a popular store in the Atlanta area. I was always getting caught short so now I stock ahead...
