Default C5 Differential Rebuild

My sons differential started leaking and he has gear noise, so we decided to pull the differential and change the Ring & Pinion to a 3:73 ratio. Decided to use Motive Gear for ring & pinion and going to take diff to my friend to rebuild. Just wondering if its cheaper to buy a diff done by one of the vendors.

Any help is appreciated
Thanks

You do know,,,,,, who ever rebuilds your rearend,,, has to have a KENT MOORE C5/C6 Differential Alignment tool,,,, Correct????

You do know,,,,,, you can upgrade your rear with C6 parts?? Here are a few post for you. This is the MOST cost effective way to bullet proof your rear.

That's what I did. Super good guy to work with, and no noise or leaking. I recommend a ECS trans brace that will eliminate a lot of the stress on the diff.

Biggest thing to do is to take your time and keep the area CLEAN.

Most people CAN do it but only a few can do it right without noise.

It's less to buy it from a vendor since you need to buy the tools (around 350 or 400 if you can find a good deal), 2 sets of carrier shims, and a set of pinion shims. (total around $350 from dealer for shims) I had fun doing mine though, and now I can do it again if I ever need to. I like having the piece of mind that I do all my own work as well.

My son ordered ring & pinion from Motive. I used Motive on my C3 and love it, no noise. My buddy doesn't have the tools but his friend works at Black Dog Racing by us and they set up any year Corvettes for racing, so his friend said no problem piece of cake, should have it back by Monday and taking it to him on Friday.

Thanks for the help

Rear differental was rebuilt with motive gears (3.73) car is back together and all is good. No whine and my son really likes the new ratio. Had to buy plastic clips for rear brake lines that attach to rear cradle, GM bent us over on those but otherwise not that bad of a job.

The brake lines are secured and isolated on the K member with little plastic keepers. They snap onto the K member with a Christmas tree stems

Yes,,,, GM will rape you for each one!
