Default 2002 Z06 computer locked...cant tune

I am going to have to change out my computer because the previous tuner locked it. Called vette doctors and they kept no record of it so no way to unlock. Question>>>>What year computers will work and is there year that allows for easier tuning.

Why can't you get the last tuner to unlock it? Or are they not around anymore?

Do tuners lock out customer's computers out of greed, so the customer is forced to come back to them, even if they are not happy with that tuner's work?

If I found out a tuner locks his tunes, I would never visit his shop.

The '98 computers are slightly different. They have slightly different wiring, and they don't support as many tuning features. I'm pretty sure all the other years are cross compatible and should work.

EDIT:

This guy on the HPTuners forum claims he can unlock locked PCMs.... Might give him a shout before buying another computer.

I called the tuner and they dont remember locking it and have no record of who did it so no help. We tried reading it with 3 different tuner systems including LS tech that they said they use with no luck. SO, they said sorry. Thought about sending it back to them but they have a different tuner so not sure if they can unlock there.

x2 GM can flash back to Stock with Tech II. If it has larger injectors then you wont be able to drive it to the tuner.

Sorry guys, if the ECM is read/write locked by a tuner. It can not be flashed back to stock with a Tech II.

You may read and clear codes. You may record live engine data from the OBDII stream.

Think of it as the the Tech II not knowing the magic password for writing info to the ECM.

Or they are hack jobs and don't want people seeing how crappy they really are. Or they think they are God and don't want people seeing their "magic".
