No way would I pay $2000+ for a used module when I could buy the parts to upgrade to the new generation of system. For $3000 you could likely get the wiring plug and newer ABS system and bracket and BCM and IPC and column and another part you'd need to convert it to a system that can be fixed again later.
And there lies the issue, determining who's is talking to what CORRECTLY, without a tech II or and/or advanced scan tool this will be a very hard task. Still many places to fall down here and create a bigger mess of the car. Who programs the BCM that he uses?

This is exactly what I'm going to do if mine fails and the spare I bought is no good. I went over the schematics with a friend who is an electrical engineer and like lionelhutz we see no reason why it won't work.

If you think it's impossible then don't try doing it to your car.

Others who want their car to fully work and are willing to put in the time and money will get it to work.

FYI, I have seen posts here where people have successfully swapped an 01+ BCM into a pre 01 car before. I'd bet money the pre 01 BCM with AH will talk to and control the 01+ EBCM.

I am an Electrical Engineer with 2 degrees and I wouldn't do it, it's not just the wiring involved here, that's the simple part, you still need a TECH II to reprogram things like the BCM, and who knows if things like the wheel speed sensors, yaw sensors, steering wheel position sensor,... are compatible? GM and/or Bosch need to release the technical specs so someone could either re-manufacture these units or build new ones. Then there is the ongoing issues new owners might have trying to figure out how this Frankenstein was put together, would you buy a car like this knowing a major system like this was "goobered" together? I wouldn't get near one if you paid me.

Don't like a challenge?

FYI, the 99-00 BCM's have an option for AH.

I do, but I've also had worked on hack jobs like this too and reverse engineering somebodies "Gomer" fix is a real PIA. My 69' was like this with the electrics, fiber optics and vacuum systems. Took me a few months to work out the kinks. Without a techII (which I doubt he has in RUSSIA) it a non-starter for him. Wonder if he even has a sevice manual for his year and the year gear he wants to swap into his ride.

Would you buy a car you knew someone did this to? There are people on here complaining about how the AH/TCS systems work when they are stock, can't even imagine the insanity you might create by hacking different generations of the system together in a foreighn land with no local assistance. Should make for INTERESTING entertainment.

What exactly do you think is going to happen in 5 years or 10 years when a bunch more of the 97-00 cars have failed EBTCM and SWPS? Anyone who thinks the module or SWPS will be made again is kidding themselves. This will soon be the only way to fix these 2 problems on these model years of cars.

Just hope there is a long supply of the 01-04 parts so people can fix these cars.

The first person to do this and post up the pictures and details will be inundated with others wanted to do it too to get their cars fixed.

You buy a newer model, fix it with used parts or live without the TC/AH. Same as many old cars.

I'm with Lionel... If pushed into a corner, I'm going to do what ever it takes to make something work. I had an early 98 coupe. If i still had it, and it had a EBTCM failure,,, This problem may have already been solved.

I have an 02 and at the present, don't have the time or drive to experiment on the earlier module upgrade.

Back to ZeroGravity's problem.

If I were you, I would open up the EBTCM and carefully examine the circuit board for poor solder joints and the connections that connect to the microprocessor. Repair anything that isn't correct.

Hopefully that will resolve your problems

Let us know what you think.

Bill

Hi Bill! And thank you for all your knowledges about Vette. Theme a about leaks is very helpful.

Know that in USA everyone can sell 99 vette with issues for $10000 add $5000 and buy 2002 z06. But here in Russia Corvette is so exotic vehicle as a snow rover or a balloon for example. In Russia hard to find Corvette and hard to sell it. And it is a reason to fix it for a long time.
First I want to find good working module with pump 2001+ and plugs with wire-cut. Open wiring diagrams and try to make a swap.

And again about "V" module.
Here in Russia lots of the same troubles with old Bosch ABS-modules.
BMW and Saab. Volvo and VW.
Inside they are looking similar to 1997-2000 Vette modules. Near the same board. Aluminium contacts and "jelly" seal. I told with a repair craftsman in one of our repair ABS service here in Russia and he said to me that main trouble in that modules is aluminium contacts. For the first glance they are OK but in more than ten years alu contacts peel off. And very hard to solder aluminium but possible.

I've got error message only on hot engine. I'm gonna change it anyway. I'll try to re-solder all contacts to plugs.

PS I found some services who promised me that all would work perfectly after theirs rebuilding service. But cannot find any response about them.
Expensive ($800 and more):
http://www.autoecu.com/Chevrolet%20C...l%20Module.htm

http://corvettespecialty.com/corvett...module-1997-00

http://www.whiteracingproducts.com/i...th=24790_25604 (found one BAD response at another one site "corvetforumS.com". First day after everything alright. Next day error again and don't want to make a refund)

Cheap one
autoxpresstech.com
For only $150 guys promises that all errors disappear. Thats impossible.

Did anyone collaborate with this componies and what result?

If ONE of them were able to repair the 97-2000 modules,, it would be WELL advertised and recommended by people on The and other forums... Ive see too many people loose money with bogus claims of shops being able to repair any module

Unless there is a problem on the printed circuit board, the microprocessor can not be repaired.

If you have carefully and professionally checked the solder joints on the circuit board and all the other electrical contacts, there is not much more than you can do..

Bill

Try to find some alu-soldering flux and do it.

I found another one Vette here in Russia. It has got lots of issues. Engine is unplugged. Shortage of spare parts. It stood motionless more than 2 years. But it is cabrio. There very fresh interior. Maximum equipment - projection to windshield, re-sawed seats with memory. And...... it is 2002! That mens that I can replace all the EBTCM system to my car. Or do a cabrio. Or not, because here is winter half time long.

Think your "dream" will turn into a nightmare QUICKLY with this game plan. BUT, I guess you don't have much else to do during the long cold Russian winter, may as well hack your car up. And it would be more parts than you have listed above to upgrade to a later system (like the SWPS, possibly the Yaw sensor, and probably having to reflash the BCM to match the options the car has).

Probably should have bought the simplest vette you could get with the least amount of Electronics (like a C3), you can still get all the parts for those beasts but driving one if the ice/snow is almost impossible.

Your really better off leaving it alone and just driving it like a car without ABS.

To EBCM again. C1255 fail. Is it the end?

WOW! You are taking on a VERY complicated project. Take a very close look at the EBTCM on both vehicles. You will find LOTS of major differences.

I’m NOT saying that it CAN NOT be done but, you will need to be an expert at re-pluming the brake lines.

You will need to transplant the EBTCM/BPMV, SWPS, Lateral Accelerometer, YAW Accelerometer and do a lot of wiring changes and transplants.

Get electrical schematics for BOTH cars. You should get ESI Service manuals on DVD:

- GM Service Manuals on CD: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...al-on-dvd.html

Get with forum member " lionelhutz " He has some good ideas about the conversion process. Good guy with lots of fresh ideas on this subject! This is a project that he has been wanting to do for a LONG TIME!

If it were me,,,,,,,,,,,, I would think about making the 2002 WORK!

Good luck Comrade!

Bill

I know that wouldnn't be easy but I'll do it. There is nowhere to retreat =). I already bought it.

I already got manuals on DVD. Without hem I can do nothing.
