The bezel that goes around the controls broke. Does the bottom cushion come out or do I have to take out the entire seat? On my '86 the bottom cushion comes out and I can get to everything but I don't know about my C-5. Anybody???
2 torx screws hold the front rail covers on then 4-10 mm bolts, unplug the seat control harness under the seat and out it comes. You're going to fight with the center console if you don't remove the seat.
When I replaced mine (got new one from GMPartsHouse for about $16 and shipping) I got it off without taking out the seat but could not get the front screw back in without removing the seat from the car and turning it upside down. YMMV. Still, not a hard job.
I looked at two C5's and it looks like they all seemed to be broken. Pretty common? Both sides they are sticking out not tight to the seat. Fat asses crunching them down? LOL!
Good to know they are fixable as well as the rocking seat. Probably good to do both at the same time. Going to sell it and may help to do that. All the little touches add up when you see others that are broke when looking at the car and or the seat moving back and forth.
One screw at the front and anther under the recline handle. The recline handle comes off like an old-school window crank handle. The clip is going down from the top so reach in from the top side of the handle with a hook to snag it and pull it off. Put the clip on the handle then plug it onto the shaft to re-install.
Been there did that. Broken due to the wires suspending the seat cushion cutting thru the cushion. Fix requires seat removal replace suspension wires and seat cushion. BUT when you reassemble, add a piece of carpet between the suspension wires and the seat cushion. I am 6' 4" and 220 lbs. Did the fix 3 years ago and 30,000 miles back and it is still nice and firm. By the way, I used thin welding wire to replace the broken wires.
