Default LS1 Upgrade

I am ready to kick the LS1 up a few HP's. I would like to get up to 450 hp.
Can you guys give me some help with info on Cam, Pistons, Heads, and the any other parts I should change? I don't race it, so it's just for my road riding satisfaction. Also anyone in Detroit area that you would trust this work to? I think it is too much for me to handle. I want it done right.

OH BOY! Once you crack the engine and insert things to make that much HP/TQ,,,,,,,, your wallet better be ready to support up-grades to other drive train components!

Torque tube isolators
Differential output shafts
Suspension upgrades to limit wheel hop and enhance traction!!
NEW Power bond dampener, LS2 chain, Melling Oil Pump (reliability)
Torque tube rubber isolator replacement (reliablity!)

I did all this and IF, I had it to do all over again,,,,,,,,, i would have installed a supercharger or blower!

I have a Ported Fast 90 intake, Ported 90mm TB, VARARAM, Stainless LT headers, Patriot Stage II heads, Stainless Works 3" mid pipe and muffler system GOOD TUNE!

I also up-graded my differential with C6 parts

Are you saying you would have just put on a supercharger, Magnacharger, or the front mount type, and leave the engine stock?

Depends on what you want. I have a Magnuson and it's great for Street and highway driving. If you want more HP than go with an front mount. But be warned you will need deep pockets if you go to wild or want more.

A stock block LS1 LS6 engine can easily handle 6 psi. Much over that, your talking forged parts.

Even if you just add 6 psi boost,,, you still need to do all the drive train up-grades.

I forget to mention complete CLUTCH component replacement or A4 up-grades and converter replacement.
The stock A4 will NOT last long once you pass the 400hp or 390 ftlbs Tq mark.

With a power adder, you dont need a fancy air intake, a stock LS6/2001+ manifold will do

Some other stuff you will need. Larger injectors, bigger fuel pump, Different MAP (for boost)

Just get an ECS or A&A kit. Run 6-10psi all day long with a good tune. Wait till suspension junk starts to break, then replace. No need for heads, cam, intake-just a blower will easily get you to 450. Check out the FI section and start to learn. As far as the tranny goes, I am around 900 hp on a stock auto. I may have a unicorn tranny, but as long as it doesn't get hot or a major downshift you shouldn't have much of a problem at 450hp! Just some food for thought

especially if you have e85 in your area. the worst part about FI and cast pistons with pump gas is detonation. little water in the gas, some oil blow by, run the car hard, get it hot and the chance of lighting up a ringland goes up. i've done it before

e85 is absolutely wonderful for boost. it has a cylinder cooling effect and is extremely detonation resistant allowing more boost or more timing

You are talking 6psi from a blower correct?
I am running Kooks and a Blackwing with a GForce Chip. Don't know the HP ,but did a 12.88 at the strip, but no more racing done with it. It's a six speed ,so I was planning on changing the Cluch also.
The car is here in Detroit and then in Florida for the winter. That's why I would like to get this done before I leave in November.
