Default to pin crank or not

my harmonic balancer recently started walking off the crank so I'm going to replace the pully with an underdrive unit and ARP bolt. is crank pinning very important for non forced induction.

You wouldn't want to go back in there and take it apart again if it did become a problem. Its quite a bit of work to get in that far. Just one more thing you can cross off the list of things coming back to haunt you later.

I was a little undecided on pinning mine. Ended up pinning it, as others have said, since I was in there anyway. Added $125 and total peace of mind to the job. If my original had started "walking" as you say yours has I would definitely have pinned it. If you mean it walked between the balancer and the crank and not the rubber hub, then there will be some damage to the crank snout. Could be as small as 1000/th's but there will be some. No way I would do that job without pinning the new one.
