Hey I just purchased a LMC5 and was reading the install instructions and its say u need to unlock the column before u do anything ...I hate to purchase the unlocking tool to do this can I unlock it without the unlocking tool..I just don't won't to wait..btw my stearing column locks when I take the key out...so I need some help here...
I believe the reason is to permanently disable the column lock. If the relay fails (which will eventually happen) you will be stuck with no way of driving home as your steering wheel will be locked.

I understand why the CLB is to be installed, i was asking if unlocking it and hooking the battery would be the best way to unlock it for the install..

If you have the unlocker I would recommend locking the steering wheel prior to installing the LCM5. I just installed mine last night. I just figured it was easier to lock the wheel because when I got to the step of unlocking it was simple to test if it worked.
If you currently unlock when the key is turned, you should be OK to follow the instructions above, i.e. turn key, unlock column, disconnect battery (check wheel is still unlocked), and install the LMC5 per the instructions that came with it. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call Richard at Compliance Parts, he was a great help to me when mine locked and I was stranded.
sounds right to me. when its unlocked and the battery is off it should be ready to go.. dont turn the wheel to the lock position, not sure if it will relock or not.
How about the relay that's sits above BCM in instructions it shows to disconnect it in 2a step then doesn't mention about it in later steps should I leave it disconnected
Sorry I didn't see your reply...I went and conected that relay thats above the BCM ...am I in trouble? I followed the video it didn't say anything about disconnecting that relay and leaving it off
