Little if any performance will be had on a basically stock engine and,,,,,,, in fact, you will most likely loose some power and or idle quality. You may also see a slight loss of fuel efficiency.

The MAF is NOT a significant obstruction to performance until you go Forced Induction or well over 500HP

Bill, don't quite understand your explanation, not changing the sensor, just the housing 5mm larger, also plan on installing the b2 vararam w/ bellows. Are you saying this will add no h.p or perfprmance to my stock 345hp vette? Can you clarify "significant obstruction" terminology please.wlean99

Your stock MAF is calibrated (from the factory) to be able to calculate correct air flow through the MAF Sensor.

When you remove the screen, change the diameter and airflow paterns through the MAF, It is NO LONGER calibrated.

Mr Bill Curlee,i was informed that to recalibrate the mas, I could just unhook my battery for a few minutes and the mas would recalibrate. If there is to be no significant change in perfomance I fear I have just wasted 60$. What is your personal advice to add a little more punch to this engine w/out getting involved with a cam etc?

That info is NOT true. The MAF calibration is contained in the PCM as a table.
The only way to change that table is thru tuning software.

What does change with a battery disconnect is the LONG TERM FUEL TRIMS.

Bill, so I should return this to mamotorworks as soon as I get it,at least i'll only get beat up on the shipping charges. There is, I fear much I do not know about this car.Last hot rod was 71 442 convertible, much easier to work on .I am a retired collision expert but know little of the computer controlled engine. What is meant by the"long term fuel trims? Thanks for your patience with me,fear I am starting to be a pain in the a--.

WELL,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, It will work but,,,, unless your are going to get the PCM tuned, there could be minor issues.

What are you're goals for the car and what performance modifications are you planning to install?

Have you considered tuning?

Things that make POWER are:

-Headers
-True cold air intakes like VARARAM
-If you have an automatic, Torque Converter and gear change
-

What year car do you have and what Transmission?

If you have a 97-2000, adding a 2001 -2004 intake manifold will add some HP.

Where do you live? If its a HOT climate, install a colder thermostat.

Hi Bill, basically Ive had this car for about 6 years now and it only has about 34,000 miles on it. Its not that I am afraid to put mileage on it, its just that in n.j the season is short. I'm feeling I want a little more power, you know like when you first got your vette it felt like what it had was all you'll ever need but now you want more.Dont want to make any radical changes to this completely stock car, just want my heart to go piter pater again when I do a little heel toe action. So basically don't know what the heck I want to do but don't want any engine mods to this car. Perhaps its time to move up to something else, but first vette..first love..ya know?

Bill Curlee, as I stated in original thread I plan on installing the vararam system w/bellows,thought the larger maf housing would be necessary.
