Default Has anyone put locking nuts on...

Have any of you put locking nuts on your starter to secure the cables to the starter rather than the standard nuts that are on it? I occasionally have problems with mine backing off and I have to tighten them. Seems like a no-brainer to use locking nuts to me, probably gonna do it tomorrow just wondering if any of you have done so!

Dont break the small stud off. Are you going to use the all metal ones or the plastic insert ones?

Going with all metal, I'd assume that the ones with a plastic insert wouldn't last long on the starter

Dont use locking nuts. If you are worried then use lock-tite blue. Not red.

You mustn't be tightening them enough. GM (as well as the other manufacturers) has made 100's of millions of cars with the same or very similar studs and nuts on the starters yet if you search you won't find wide spread failure reports involving them coming loose.

Hmm odd, I'll re-tighten, but they are very snug after I tighten them. I do have an aftermarket starter so maybe that could be part of the issue. If anything, I'll just put some lock-tite on them as Voodoo GTX stated

I've used "ny-lock" nuts on starters of various cars over the years. No issues with them...

Ended up just dropping the longtube, put some lock-tite on. Found an exposed wire while I was down there and fixed that up too. She's good to go!
