I already have the unit, came with the car. Its takes too stinking long to program, but I like it for changing the rear gear ratio, speed limiter, fan switch, shift points, rev limits and more.
So this is not asking to get it or not or if its worth it, but if the prower program feature can make the car run with less power? I took the power programing off, and the car feels stronger. I didn't have time to check it on the dyno when I was there (400 miles away) and I went too late, and it took to long to revert back to stock to compare it at the track today.
I'm thinking it may help a little if the car is stock? Anyone else have a few mods and try with and without the power programing? Mike at Xtreme made me start wondering about this.
Re: Hypertech power programing, or not? (TexCorvette)
Ihave read too many posts about people losing power with the Hypertech when fully installed. Chose to go with Ed Wright instead. Do a search of previous posts you"ll get more than you want to read, almost all negative. :reddevil
Re: Hypertech power programing, or not? (TexCorvette)
thanks for the input. Anyone with solid proof like a dyno run?
You know, G-Tech has a new unit out that might be of benefit. It does a ton of things, including hp and tq, and I just ordered one yesterday. You can get one from Summit Racing. That way you could check it yourself as often as you'd like without having to go the 400 miles for a dyno. The cost is $249.95
Re: Hypertech power programing, or not? (TexCorvette)
I played with the engine tuning option a bit. I found that I got audible knock  running ported MAF ends and a stock thermostat / fan control temps when it was hot out. The RFG tuning was a tad better. Both were livable w/o the MAF and better w/ lower fan control settings. (Keep in mind it's assumed you're running with lower coolant temps.) I never dynoed in either configuration since I mainly got it for fan control stuff.
Re: Hypertech power programing, or not? (ToplessTexan)
well, the car seems to pull much harder without the power tuning, just seting the gears and shift points ans such, and so did a friend, but it could just be in our heads.
Re: Hypertech power programing, or not? (TexCorvette)
Works Good for Me, Car is more responsive,Shifts better.and with the shift points changed it just plain feels better.I'm Happy with it. :D :flag :chevy :) :D
Re: Hypertech power programing, or not? (TexCorvette)
Tex,
Not heavily modded as you can see below. But, I've got dyno sheets from before and after. Stock air box w/o programming was 287rwhp. Dropped a K&N Twin filter on and programmed - went to 297rwhp. In my case it worked fine.

That could be possible if say the engine tuning hi oct was too agressive and you feel back to using the lo oct table *and* the same was not true for the stock tuning, i.e. the stock hi oct table (or even lo oct) was somewhere in between. I'll try to find some time to take a peek at them and see. PE differences would complicate the picture somewhat. When you say "pull much harder" do you mostly at WOT or generally at all throttle positions?
