Default column lock problem

When I let the cluch out in my 99 FRC the engine dies. 2 msg's: pull key, wait 10 sec. (no joy) and service column lock. (It never did lock but you can hear the motor turn when turning the key on or off.) I installed Dr. Don's bypass kit - no joy, then as the directions said, unplugged 3 BCM conectors for 24 hours and had a new key made - no luck. Any ideas? Thanks, Bob.

www.complianceparts.com/lmc5unlocker.html‎, will get you going. tell them to express ship it or you can get HP Tuners Software to change the fuel cutoff speed to 250 mph rather than the factory setting of 2 mph. any questions call me @ 7068334390.James, Augusta Ga.

Hey guys,

I just bought a 99 C5 6spd less than a month ago and came across the steering column lock issue yesterday. I'm not sure if the previous owner addressed the issue and had anything replaced. What's the most up to date solution to this problem? Should I just take the car to the dealer and have them fix it? Please advice.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat, new C5 owner. After looking thru all the threads on this topic is seams the best bet is the LCM5. That's what I'm planning on doing soon since my column still locks now.

With NO KEY in the ignition does the column lock????

If yes the you NEED to address the column lock issue. If the column does NOT lock with NO KEY in the ignition the column lock issue has already been addressed on your 99 Manual Trans. ie a CLB or LMC5 has already been installed.
As I was trying to find a solution, I came across one site that said to reset the codes. So I did the whole hold down options and hit fuel 4 times. And to my surprise it worked; the column unlocked. Now I know that was a temp fix and most likely the problem will arise in the future. For now I'm going to wait to see what happens when it locks again. And whether it locks with key in the ignition or without.

The question I have now is, could It lock while driving? That's kind of scary.

Thanks for your help!

If it locks with the key out (as was designed to do) then you need a CLB or LMC5 from http://www.complianceparts.com/

I was going to post a new thread on this subject tonight but since this one is going I'll jump in. Seems the recent cooler weather might be dropping some batt voltage.

Cliffs on mine;

2001 M6 Coupe, purchased by me 4/12, current miles = 44k
PO had documentation of warranty recall repair E7501 which listed replaced parts as Locking Parts,Rack/Sector/Lock Bolt/Actuator Rod.
In addition in same visit, V1145-04006 Perform Reprogram and functional test.

So I assume the functional test failed and they replaced the locking mech. Nothing stated about adding any wiring or relays. I havnt looked but now I guess I might have reason too.?

Up until today, everything has been working fine. Column locks and unlocks per design. However, after a few recent days of no driving and cooler nights on a 3yo ACDELCO 75, I started car for first time in a few days and moved it. About 10min later I tried to start it to move it again and it stalled DIC = "pull key wait 10 sec".. no other messages. First time I have ever seen it. So I waited 10 and tried again, all good! There are no codes registered, and she never has displayed the "Service Steering Column Lock" (I know, I know, NOT YET )

I have the tender on her now, and plan to buy a new Interstate 78 this weekend. I have an LMC5 I purchased last year and keep in the car JIC. Should I go ahead and install it? I hesitate just because Im one of those dont fix it until it's actually broken types

Sorry if I highjacked. Seemed like a good spot to share my experience!

Functional test is done on ALL manual trans C5's. Has nothing to do with the other parts that were replaced on your car.

If it were me I'd wait until your hundreds of miles from home and the lock motor fails in the column locked position before installing the LMC5. Besides it's great ballast in the glove box. And better if your car decides it's one of those that isn't 100% compatible with the Base LMC5 and you suddenly start getting the Pull key.... message every time you shut off the car and then try restarting it, you'll have some new steps to follow to be able to start and drive the car with the fix installed.

2002 Coupe. Had the same problem. I installed 3 versions of the LMC5 bypass and the last one (5 wire) worked. No pull key, no shut off, just starts like it's suppose to. Call compliance parts and they will work with you. Their customer service is impeccable.
