column lock problem
I just bought a 99 C5 6spd less than a month ago and came across the steering column lock issue yesterday. I'm not sure if the previous owner addressed the issue and had anything replaced. What's the most up to date solution to this problem? Should I just take the car to the dealer and have them fix it? Please advice.
Thanks
With NO KEY in the ignition does the column lock????
If yes the you NEED to address the column lock issue. If the column does NOT lock with NO KEY in the ignition the column lock issue has already been addressed on your 99 Manual Trans. ie a CLB or LMC5 has already been installed.
The question I have now is, could It lock while driving? That's kind of scary.
Thanks for your help!

Cliffs on mine;
2001 M6 Coupe, purchased by me 4/12, current miles = 44k
PO had documentation of warranty recall repair E7501 which listed replaced parts as Locking Parts,Rack/Sector/Lock Bolt/Actuator Rod.
In addition in same visit, V1145-04006 Perform Reprogram and functional test.
So I assume the functional test failed and they replaced the locking mech. Nothing stated about adding any wiring or relays. I havnt looked but now I guess I might have reason too.?
Up until today, everything has been working fine. Column locks and unlocks per design. However, after a few recent days of no driving and cooler nights on a 3yo ACDELCO 75, I started car for first time in a few days and moved it. About 10min later I tried to start it to move it again and it stalled DIC = "pull key wait 10 sec".. no other messages. First time I have ever seen it. So I waited 10 and tried again, all good! There are no codes registered, and she never has displayed the "Service Steering Column Lock" (I know, I know, NOT YET
) I have the tender on her now, and plan to buy a new Interstate 78 this weekend. I have an LMC5 I purchased last year and keep in the car JIC. Should I go ahead and install it? I hesitate just because Im one of those dont fix it until it's actually broken types

Sorry if I highjacked. Seemed like a good spot to share my experience!

They reprogram the PCM to set the fuel shutoff to be 2mph and then with the Tech II they can functionally test to see that the fuel is shutoff at 2mph per the requirements of the NHTSA recall. Functional test is done on ALL manual trans C5's. Has nothing to do with the other parts that were replaced on your car.
If it were me I'd wait until your hundreds of miles from home and the lock motor fails in the column locked position before installing the LMC5.
Besides it's great ballast in the glove box.
And better if your car decides it's one of those that isn't 100% compatible with the Base LMC5 and you suddenly start getting the Pull key.... message every time you shut off the car and then try restarting it, you'll have some new steps to follow to be able to start and drive the car with the fix installed.
