Default Question on Valley

I have a 1997 C5 stock. I have had error codes for my knock sensors since i bought my car last summer and my oil pressure has always read 80 also. This weekend I figured I would remove the manifold and replace my knock sensors and my oil pressure sensor. When I removed the manifold I noticed oil all over my oil pressure sensor and also when I removed the plastic tops off of the knock sensors I noticed that the rear knock sensor had about an inch of oil sitting inside of there. I have done alot of research on this and i ordered new rubber grommets to go under the knock sensors because mine were rock hard and when i tried to remove them, they just broke into pieces. I also went ahead and ordered new rubber gaskets for my intake manifold as well just to be safe. I am also going to order a catch can to hopefully keep this from happening again. I don't really want to do the l6 mod it because i don't want to mess up anything. My question here is i noticed there is a gasket for the valley online for sale. My car didn't have a gasket on it when I removed it. Would adding a gasket really help with anything and if so do I need any kind of sealant to go with the gasket? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you are doing everything correctly! YES,, you need the gasket.

Yes, seals and gaskets do get brittle with heat and age. Thats why they leaked.

When you reinstall the black plastic above the Knock Sensors, use some RTV and seal them alnost all the way around. Leave a small area for a vent.

No trick, use long needle nose pliers and gently squeeze the long ends together and pull up. If you have smaller sized fingers you might not need the pliers.
