My 2001 coupe interior lights will not come on when the doors or hatch is opened. Using the light switch, I rotate it all the way and all lights will then come on. I looked for a door switch, and cannot see one. What turns on the lights? Any suggestions on what could be wrong?
Since the doors and hatch don't turn on the interior lights, it must be something other than all three switches being bad. When I get home I will look at the FSM and ponder it.
Do you have any other light issues going on? Do the various buttons in the doors and dash light up correctly?
It could also be either Fuse 29 or Relay 42. These can be found in the Passenger side foot well fuse box. If you don't know how to test a relay you can take it to an auto store and they should be able to do it. Otherwise, I can explain how to do it.
I can't find where the dimmer switch you mentioned is tied into the circuit for the Courtesy lights. Can I make sure you are talking about the 2 Foot Well lights and the 2 Trunk lights? I have found errors in the FSM before.
Chuck (8VETTE7), I also can't find where the light sensor interacts with these interior lights. I am looking at 2001 FSM.
I hope I am not dealing with another Senior moment(s). Hold that thought, just looked at the Owners Manual and it says the dimmer switch and the ambient light sensor do interact. I just can't find how they interact using the schematics.
I agree with you Chuck that the fuse and relay are not the culprit. Also thanks for the added explanation of the circuit. Of course none of that shows up in the diagnostics on the issue.
Thanks for all the feedback. This car belongs to a friend/neighbor so I have not been able to get back and check out some of the suggestions. I will in the next few days and respond back.
If I am deciphering what 8vette7 is saying, it sounds like the BCM might be the culprit, since the fuse and relay would be in the circuit when I manually turn on the lights. That doesn't sound good at all.
I think the ALS/input is the most likely problem. The BCM is working to at least provide the dimmer (full-on) input and activate the relay to turn the lights on.
