I'd go with the stock, unless you really need a red starter. I'd suggest that you replace the crank position sensor while you're down there and wrap the starter with a heat shield.

There are a ton of new ones on Ebay for $60 to $80 that will work fine unless you're not telling us something about you car which would require a higher torque starter.

I was thinking the exact samething. I have 11.5:1 compression Zo6 engine and the Stock OEM starter works excellent!

Make sure you don't get the reman. I had the reman ac delco and the gear didn't disengage.

Their add is somewhat miss leading. They list the red starter as a gear reduction, while the stock starter they state as stock, when in reality it is also a gear reduction starter.

I have a stock GM gear reduction starter on the 565 CI BBC in my Cole drag boat and it spins the motor just fine, plus the stock starters have an additional support on the front of pinion gear that prevent miss-alignment when it engages the flywheel, while the aftermarket do not.

When the pinion on that red starter engages the flywheel and attempts to spin it, there is a certain amount of deflection due to the pinion only being supported on one end, not the best design in my opinion. I have seen flywheel damage caused by the pinion gear barely engaging the flywheel and will eventually damage the ring gear.

Compare the two pictures, the difference is obvious.
