Default troubles after cam install

just seeing if you guys could give me some input or opinions.
i installed a new cam/lifters and pushrods using the ls1howto guide. everything seemed to turn out fine, turned the engine over by hand with no resistance while plugs were out "nothing binding" fired engine up and went through the "learn procedure" i read up on the forums. the engine misses and backfires if below 1500 rpms and wont idle on its own. i walked behind the car after letting it run in the drive for about 5 minutes and noticed alot of medal shaving coming out the exhaust. there small and very shiny, id say about the color of a new exhaust donut gasket. im sure this isnt good news. and im trying to get pictures of it... any ideas? I do relies I need a tune. im hoping its something like a cat going bad or something, and nothing internal

You have cats?

Also, specs on cam? Anything more than a medium cam will probably have running issues without tuning.

WOW, if it's anything internal it has to come from the cylinder and I don't know anything from the cylinder that could look like that and have that many particles. Your car is going to run like crap till you get the tune, mine barely ran at all. Good luck.

Metal parts must be from your cats. Any damage to the cylinder causing that much debris out of the exhaust would cause a very noticeable sound I would think. Idle issues is probably because you're untuned. My cam was more mild than yours, 228/230, .60x"/.60x", 111 + 2 LSA, and car didn't want to idle.

im hoping its the catalytic converter. had a very bad backfire and im thinking it might have busted the cat.... ill know soon as I find time to pull the exhaust. seems most practical way to find out other then pulling the head.
