The best product is a heat gun and waxed dental floss. A heat gun can be dangerous so a hair dryer is safer but less effective.

Mechanix gloves
50 lb fishing line
Spray can of Goo Gone/goof off.

Spray the goo gone along the top side of the piece of molding you are working on then cut through the tape under the bsm's with a sawing motion. If you aren't concerned with resale of the bsm's. angle the fishing line back toward you away from the car while sawing.

Start with a shorter piece to get your technique down(front fender). As you get a few inches help separate the molding by applying stress to the tape pulling the molding away from the car a bit. Once you get a piece off there will be tape left on the car and it will look kinda scary. Apply more goo gone and rub with your gloved fingers as you would rubbing a sticker into a ball. Should all come off with some elbow grease. Hopefully your paint is A okay.

Good luck and post before and after pics

P.s. when you spray the goo gone i would apply it along the top of all pieces and let sit. Really saturate it so the job will be easier. Victory loves preparation/work smart not hard kinda thing

If you want to read articles, with pictures on removal (and there are hundreds), go to Google and type in C5 BSM removal, or C5 body side molding removal, or similar. Google is much more productive than the forum search, but it still finds forum articles. You'll also see threads where owner's were surprised that their cars had been painted without removing the bsm's which can be a real issue, as 8Vette7 said.

Last thing I would want, is to remove them only to find there is a slight color variation. Then having to put them back on, only to find they fall off down the road, because the sticky used wore off.

I respect your opinion. Mine opinion of them is

It's a Stealership added option to make money. Not part of the original design.

BTW, How many car doors actually line up with the BSM that would contact that molding. Not many that I know of.

Like everything it's just a matter of what will make a person happy... I didn't know what the paint was like until I removed mine. I lucked out. But, I knew going in that the door bumpers were coming off regardless. Had the paint been funny I would have just had them fixed. BSM's look hideous IMO.

No. They were a factory option.

BSM...I only discovered they were disliked by some when I joined this forum...prior to that it was merely part of my car...and never a concern really.

they create downforce at high speeds, and that's a serious note to add. lol

I never removed mine because i'm afraid it will be different colors behind it. not taking the risk.

I stand corrected. It was a useless factory option solely designed to make money.

80k miles on my z that sits outside.

Used fishing string and wd-40.
With a heatgun they came off really easy.

No color difference at all, plan on buffing the area due to wax buildup at the bsm.
Can post a few pictures I took during the process if you want.

Car looks so much better now

I'd love to remove mine but I just am not ready or willing to take a chance with what I find underneath. Oh well, maybe one day.
