Default 2004 oxygen sensor questions.

We'll I've come to realize 04 must have been a odd ball year in many ways. My front 02 sensors use a square plug instead of the oval therefore my extensions won't work. Is it possible to use the rear 02 sensors for the fronts without any problems?

Well I tried to use the downstreams but on my 04 the connectors were different. The upstreams had a female connector and the downstreams had a male or vice versa. I ended up cutting my original upstreams and extending them with some wire, heat shrink, and tape but is it because my cars a 04 it had different connectors? I know 04 is a odd ball year.
