I have a 2001 with 70,000 miles. Took it to the dealer and had it serviced. Everything was fine except the battery was starting to go bad. I just replaced the battery (dealer wanted $40.00 just to replace it) and now every time I turn the key to the on position to get ready to start the car the dash lights start flickering rapidly and it doesn't want to start. If I then turn the key back to off and try to restart it will fire right off. Also I noticed that when I put it in gear (reverse) to back out of the garage the passenger side lock will no longer automatically lock. Really confused............

Sounds like we're having similar issues after having replaced the battery. I have a 2000 with 104,000 miles. I can't say I have the definitive answer but I think I'm getting close? Depending on how long the battery was out of the car, you may have lost some memory settings when the old battery was removed. Start by checking all your security setting using the DIC. On my car the horn would occasionally honk for no reason and the interior lights would come on randomly when parked in the garage. You might also have to re-learn the FOB by standing in front of the car and holding both lock and unlock buttons down until you get either a honk or parking lights flash.
Like I said, I don't have all the answers but it seems to be related to loss of memory settings. Still doing my Sherlock Holmes thing.
Sounds like you have a poor battery connection. remove BOTH battery cables. Wire brush clean the battery cable terminal and reinstall the battery cables. YOU MUST TORQUE the battery cables o to the battery at the correct TORQUE. 11 ft/lbs 97-03.
Clean and reconnect the cables and properly retorque the battery terminals.

Thanks Bill, I'll give that a try but the battery was new 30 days ago and the terminals were perfectly clean. The used felt pads between both connections to the battery which may have prevented obtaining the proper torque. I'll check.
Theres your problem!!! NO FELT PADS can be used between the battery terminal and cable terminal.
If you look at the cable terminal you will see some raised ridges. Those ridges are what makes the proper contact on the lead battery post.
You are using the terminal bolt and that makes a poor connection. Who ever installed the battery and put the felt pads in, needs to be schooled.
Remove the pads and clean with solvent and torque to 11 ft/lbs 97-2003 C5.
The 04 C5 uses a top post clamp battery connection and a different torque method.
Sorry about taking so long to reply, its fixed. Rubber cover over positive cable out of round would not let cable make full contact. Pulled it down and now everything is just fine..... Thanks for your help.
