Looking to drop the rear drivetrain sometime next year and am looking to replace the clutch while it is out of the car. I do not know much about what good clutches ar out there so I am looking for some feedback on what people like! This is a 1999 coupe six speed.
I am no experts but have similar a question for my 1999. Have you done any other mods that would impact the HP/TQ? If not there is not much of a need to upgrade just repair and replace as determined by wear and tear. If you are looking for just a little more punch at launch I would suggest you upgrade to the LS7 kit I attached a link that one of the sponsors who I have purchased parts from in the past has on their website.
I have not installed this myself but have seen others that are happy with this upgrade. I think it is reasonably priced. I have put in a 4.10 rear end (which is probably my best performance upgrade), long tub headers, honker CAI, Fast 92MM, LS2 throttle body, update MAF to fit the Honker CAI plus a tune by Road Rebel (would highly recommend but he is in MI).
I am thinking this fall I will put this same clutch kit in plus an 25% under pulley and a small cam. That should be enough but I said that about $6000 ago and need another $5000 to finish what I started.
Careful once you go down the rat hole of upgrades there is no turning back it just sucks you in deeper and deeper.
what kind of feel you want along with the power you make need to be addressed
if the car is stock and you want it to feel stock get the ls6 clutch kit
if the car is stock and you plan on mods and or have mods get the monster stage 1 or 2 depending on power level needed. you can also go with a lighter flywheel if you want to speed up response time.
or
you could do an ls7 clutch but they weigh 60lbs complete. the ls6 is 48 or 50lbs and the monster with the 18lb flywheel is 43lbs. the perk to the ls7 clutch is they feel exactly like stock
if you make or plan to make over 500 pounds of torque at the wheels go twin disc. ceramic or stronger single discs absolutely suck to drive on the street
Just go with the LS7 clutch. I bought my car used and the previous owner installed a
monster clutch 3. Basically a ceramic puck clutch. Holds big HP but all ways shutters or squeaks at stop lights. I hate it !!!
If you have street tires and your not on a sticky track they will spin if you have 500 rwhp.
So many people think a stronger clutch will make them faster. Most times a stock clutch will hold for the first race. And if your not a huge track guy why bother.
The car is pretty much stock, future modifications/engine swap will come but I think I will go for the LS7 clutch.
We do the LS7 clutch packages installed for $1260 on stock manifold C5's including parts and labor. We can do a same day turnaround if you couldn't leave the car. Contact me if your interested.

What are your future plans, might consider a clutch that you can grow into. We offer the option of rebuilding/swapping discs out for Monster customers, don't hesitate if you have any questions.
