Default tire pressure and fob problem.

i recently bought a c5 vette and found that the dic for tire pressure was not working. no problem, just hit the reset a few times and the display was erased. also bought a new fob for opening the doors but discovered the i was unable to program it because i could not get the dic display on the car to come on. after more investigation on this forum, i found that the two problems are related by the remote function actuator. what i would like to know is if there is a fuse that controls this item that might be the problem before i spend the time and money to have it fixed. where is this RFA located, can i get to it to check connections and operation. thanks for your time, this is a great resource to help with my new toy...

How old are the TPMS sensors? The batteries eventually die.

Have you checked for any codes? The module is located behind the driver side trim panel behind the seat.Checking for codes would be the first thing to try.

You don't need a code reader.

* Pull the codes via the DIC. youtube will show you how read and reset them.
* Test key fob (most parts stores have a testing station), it could be a bad battery or more likely a bad fob (Common on older C5 fobs... search for key fob in the C5 section you will read up on it).
* Make sure you have TPMS (not all cars had them), should have metal valve stems on the wheels.
* TPMS has a battery inside each sensor in each wheel. Might need to replace the battery or the sensors. GMParts House, Parts Taxi and other supporting venders can sell you the new Sensors.
* Try reprograming the sensors:

http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/vemp_09...m/viewall.html

If you rotate your tires or replace a wheel sensor, your tire-pressure-monitoring sensors will need to be reprogrammed. The following is a step-by-step procedure for reprogramming the C5 sensors:

1. Let the vehicle sit for two minutes; then turn the ignition on.

2. Press the "Reset" button to clear any Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) warning messages.

3. Press and release the "Options" button on the Driver's Information Center (DIC) and scroll through the display options until the IPC display is blank.

4. Press and hold the DIC "Reset" button for 3 seconds.

5. Press the "Options" button again until the "Tire Training" message appears.

6. Press the "Reset" button until the "Learn Left Front Tire" message appears on the IPC.

7. Place a large magnet over the left front valve stem. The horn will sound, indicating the left front TPMS sensor is programmed. If this takes more than 15 seconds, pull the magnet back and try again. If the procedure fails after three tries, you'll need to start the sequence over from the beginning. GM sells a special U-shaped magnet specifically for this job (PN J41760), but a large speaker magnet will usually work just as well.

8. When the horn sounds, the IPC will direct you to move on to the next sensor. (The sequence is left front, right front, right rear, left rear.) The programming can be canceled at any time by turning the ignition off. If the programming is cancelled with fewer than four sensors learned, it will only accept the sensors programmed up to that point.

The following is a step-by-step procedure for reprogramming the C6 Corvettes sensors. This procedure requires a wheel-sensor-reprogramming tool:

1--6. These steps are the same as for the C5.7. Install the wheel-sensor-reprogramming tool over the left front valve stem. The horn will sound, indicating that the left front TPMS sensor is programmed. If this takes more than 15 seconds, pull the reprogramming tool back and try again. If the procedure fails after three tries, you'll need to start the sequence over from the beginning.

Default Receiver

The receiver for a 98 convertable is mounted on the drivers side just behind the seat. It is hidden partially behind the speaker there.
I had to pull mine and found the antenna was completely loose when i opened the case, took it to a radio shop and had it resoldered and have had no problem since then. My key fobs if they would sync would loose sync by the next day till i did this.
I also had 1 fob the was completelu dead a new battery for it didnt help so i got a new 1
