I pulled into the drag strip and while I was waiting in line I got a horrible grinding noise. Taking off slow it sounds like I'm grinding my gears but the car is in gear and it doesn't matter what gear I'm in taking off. Disengaging the clutch halfway I can make the sound stay and the shifter would not bulge even when the clutch was all the way depressed once the noise is present. I could disengage it if I used a ton of force to take it out. Once I start moving, no noise even going 1mph and switching gears or slowly releasing the clutch. If I run the rpms high while taking off I believe it doesn't make the grinding noise but then again my car is really loud. Clutch fluid is clear too.
I know it's next impossible to diagnose on the internet but what are the likely issues? Car has a McLeod clutch.
