I am trying to learn a bit more about the how's and why's of upgrading my torque converter. On the advice of many, it seems I should do this mod before a head/cam setup. So I was trying to learn a bit more about it.
What is the difference between the various YANK converters? A yank3000 versus a 3500? Would you not install a 3500 on 3.15 gears? If so, why? I basically need a lesson on the mechanics of this..
Also - I am unclear what gains you really get. If anyone could explain to me the mechanical workings of the TC and how it relates to increased HP/torque or just acceleration, it would be appreciated.
I'll give you a non-technical lesson of what a T/C does to your acceleration. Imagine having a shot of NOs applied to your engine all of a sudden! That is what a good converter does to your acceleration. The first mod one should do to any auto transmission car for huge performance gains.
I chose the PI Vigilante, primarily for its track performance history. No loss of driveability.
