Default Window regulator help

I had the post im looking for before but now for the life of me i cant find it.

I thought i had the post saved, even kept it up on my phone for when i finally got out to do the job. But thanks to lovely technology it had to disappear. I hate the default/mobile settings first of all....

Anyway the post was from djmlax89. He had a picture of inside the door and where to apply tension to provide a temp fix for the window regulator. Can someone or djmlax89 help me or repost those pics?

The best "temp" fix that I've found was to tap the bolt behind the regulator motor with a hammer. I did this for the first year I owned my coupe and it has since fixed itself. I haven't had a problem in a year or more.

The motor still working. It was making the crackling, grinding noise when going down. Sometimes it wouldnt go all the way down. Of course when i take everything off it acts fine. I did recreate the noise a little. I tried tension in a few spots and ended up doing the same thing djmlax89 did. I sent him a pm and found the thread that way. So happy he answered so quick and knew exactly what i was looking for.

So currently the windows operating noise free. I didnt see any frayed cables but saw a little dirt. I also sprayed some wd40 on them and put the window up and down a few times. Hopefully everythings good. I want to put money into performance stuff, no repairing it lol. Shes only got 16k on her now lol.

Its an 02 Z

So having the regulator issue again. Think its time to replace. I see some aftermarkets on ebay for 60-80 vs 160 for the acdelco on amazon. Any issue with this aftermarket? Where else could i look, besides dealer, unless they have a decent price. Autozone or advance would probably be aftermarket. Just dont wanna put a pos part in my car.

Dorman Products makes good stuff. I bought a truck regulator from them at a really good price. Most auto stores carry their products. Not sure if they have any C5 regulators or not.

Don't worry. The regulator is NOT Vette specific and it IS a POS part. The OEMs are junk. So it does not really matter if you get one from Amazon, Rock Auto, wherever...Here's where the plastic broke on my OEM driver's side.

Another problem. Autozone is 73 bux after core charge. However...the pic only shows the motor, not the cables and stuff.

Anyone help me on where to order or if they have used this part? Im hoping to fix it by friday.

Called other auto parts stores and chevy. The locals can only get the motor. Chevy is astronomical, so i said screw it. Ordered from amazon, 131.xx and 17 bux for 2 day shipping. The pic shows everything, cables and all. Supposed to be here friday. Hopefully im able to do it myself.

I went with the Autozone motor , my other stuff was good. I unscewed the motor, and put in the fresh one. Not super tough to do.

The old motor design traps the dust as it wears off the brushes and being conductive, could cause problems when the amount grows large enough to hit the motor contacts. I suspect this is where all the suggestions to tap on the motor to fix it come from.

In researching the job , I found a repeated suggestion to cut the cables as the first step. I repeat this only to caution against this approach. Even if you are replacing the entire assembly, this action would hold no extra benefit.

I hope you repair goes well.
