My club (Chicago Corvette Cub) is heading to Route 66 Dragway next week for a little evening fun. I've owned Corvettes for 13 years, but never had the opportunity to take one to a dragstrip. Do you guys have any advice for a "newbie"? I can already feel the adrenaline pumping, just thinking about it.
I don't want to rain on your parade, but i noticed you had a roadster. Route 66 is very strict when it comes to tech inspections and the NHRA rules, convertiables running 13.99 and quicker are required to have a roll bar. It sucks, I know, but those are the rules and they are tough.
Advice, watch the more experienced drivers as they stage and run, take it easy and have fun. If the weather is good i may be there watching.
Re: Route 66 Dragway, here we come!!! (Arnie's C5)
Thanks for the heads-up. This is another great example of why I like this Forum. Anyway, if I have never run my car, how can anyone predict that it will top 13.99? I am sure that my reaction time will stink, so a 14 wouldn't surprise me at all. Do you think I have a chance of being able to still run it? I am going to try either way.
BTW, I like what you've done with your ride. What are your 1/4-mile times?
All C5's should be qicker than 13.99 in the 1/4. You will be allowed to make at least one pass with the warning. Just depends on the track and if they stick to the rules.

Thanks, my quarter mile times are not that great. I have the T1 sway bars with Bilstein Sport shocks, that's not the set up for drag racing, best time has been 12.08. The car should do 11.60's with a better suspension and a more agressive torque converter(have a PT2400). See you Tuesday weather permitting.
Re: Route 66 Dragway, here we come!!! (Arnie's C5)
Arnie is right. Verts under 13.99 are told not to come back. Just tell the tech inspector that this is your first time at a drag track and you have no idea what you will run. They should let you go at least the first time. After I did a 13.25 they said go home. So I did and I got my Triumph Daytona T955 motorcycle out and went back. Ran a 11 something and nobody said a word. Does that make sence?
