Default telescoping switch

My telescoping steering wheel switch works some times and this time it stopped completely. I have a 2000 and wonder if others have this problem and what I need to do the fix it.

Have you tried resetting the stops? If memory serves correct, push the switch 8 times in one direction (it should bottom out that way), then repeat the other way.

Try turning the key on and push the switch eight times in one direction and hold it until the column stops. Then repeat going the other direction. Had to reset my stops in my 04 doing this.

I'm going to have to try that fix. I clicked on this thread to see if the symptoms were the same. Though my switch has worked fine, I have the following symptom:

My normal driving position is with the steering wheel all the way out. Nearly every time I start my car, I notice if I pull the switch towards me, the wheel will move closer by about 1/4 inch.

But sometimes it can go several weeks and not move at all when I move the switch. At first I thought I might have the Key 1 memory set with the wheel back slightly, but this happens whether I open the car with the key fob or just unlocked in the garage.

I'll try the reset procedure and update with the results.

Well, as promised, here's my report. I tried the procedure of pushing the steering wheel telescoping switch eight times in one direction and then 8 times in the other. On the eighth press, I felt and heard a slight "bump" which I presume is some mechanical stop being set, as indicated in this thread.

Then I pressed it 8x in the other direction (the first being the one that retracted the wheel all the way in) and on the 8th press, again I heard and felt the bump.

This was ten days ago, and since then, having started my car over a dozen times, I have felt no movement in my wheel when I pulled the button towards myself to fully extend the wheel, unlike before the fix.

Therefore, I am considering my original issue fixed, with thanks, once again, to the members of this forum.

Got my first Vette in August, a 2003 C5, and am impressed with the knowledge shared on the forum. I don't have the problem listed in this thread, but will file it in my gray matter for future reference. Thanks to all the contributors.
