Re: no vacuum at the canister hoses (c4c5specialist)
c4c5,
Thanks for all your help. I'm getting a set of service manuals ASAP and will see how involved removing the intake is going to be. I trust myself to do the job right more than I do my local dealers. I guess at the very minimum, I need to get a intake manifold gasket, and the section of hose that will possibly need replacing.
I agree with C4C5. Check your battery. Look for acid drainage. The AC vacuum lines run near the battery and most likely have been damaged by drainage. This is actually common.
There was definitely acid in the bottom of the battery compartment and all over the PCM, however, I couldn't find a break in the lines anywhere before they disappeared into their cable bundles and went either thru the firewall or toward the back of the engine. I'm not looking forward to taking the intake off to find the problem, that's for sure. I thought about taking the outter fender off  so that I can get into the compartment and check things out a bit better, but that looks to be a PITA too.
One more question; what's the deal with the B0441 H C code? Do you think it's coincidental that I'm getting that code in addition to a vaccum problem. Could the vaccum problem be due to an issue with a vaccum problem under the dash instead of at the back of the manifold thereby causing the B0441 code? Maybe the actuator is bad and is where the leak is? Any ideas?
