Has anyone retro fitted their C5 with a power telescoping steering column ?My 02 Vert is a 1sa car and at 6'2" I could use the adjustable column. Any problems or headaches with the swap? Thanks for any info. :)
I am 6' 2" and have no problems getting out of my car. I have plenty of room to maneuver around. Now the 6' 5" and above guys I could see it maybe coming in handy. Why mess with the hassle and possible problems that may arise later? Just wodering. ;)
It can be done, but you also have to have the BCM reprogrammed to add the power-telescope colum RPO (option code), so that it will be functional. It also requires that the car is equiped with a Seat Control Module (drivers side), which is present only if you have the seat memory option. The Colum telescope motor and switch connects to the Seat Control Module. If you dont have the memory option, you could just wire the telescope motor to a DPDT relay, set-up to reverse the polarity to the motor (in versus out). The relay coil is controlled by the "In / Out switch, and a second relay which applies power for either desired direction. Sounds more complex than it is, I can send you a schematic of this manual set-up.

I love this forum, with it anything is possible!
ersatz928, thanks very much. That is exactly the info I need. Yes please send the schematic of the manual set up. My Vert is a 1sa base car without any memory functions, so I can wire it that way. Sorry I did not reply sooner ,but over the weekend I worked double shifts. A beautiful weekend and never got the Vert out of the garage. :)
Viprklr, I can get in and out of the car OK with the tilt. The problem is my right thigh hitting the steering wheel when going for the brake. My '69 had the tilt and tele wheel and with less leg room than the '02 I could get a perfect driving position by pulling the wheel a little closer. If I tilt the wheel up to give me enough leg room it just doesn't feel right. I also think the Z06 rear brake ducts would look good on your car.
I am hoping to find out what you finally did to get your steering wheel
to telescope, if you did. I have an 04 Z06 and I need to get the wheel closer to me when on the track on track days. David

If they don't get back to you I can help. I will need to know if you have Memory or not to start with.
I am not sure if the BCM needs to be programmed for the RPO or not. I can hook up my Tech 2 to my car and see if it shows up as an option. It may be if you have Memory and have a TSW it will work without programming. If you have Memory you should NOT need to have the BCM programmed to just manually change the position. I can verify with the schematics later. Have not looked at them in a while.
I have memory on my drivers seat. I may not be understanding your question. I also have the settings for everything like trip meters, traction control, lighting and etc.
I asked the question since if you have Memory then you can have Memory control of a TSW if you want it since you have an SCM (not a Seat Relay Module) under the seat. It would be nice if the harness was there also. You could look under the existing column and check. I could provide the wire color and connector description on that.
The TSW is controlled by wiring that goes to the drivers seat. I recall the only exception is the ground.
