Default C6 shifter install question

I recently bought the C6 shifter kit from gmpartshouse. It looks like the **** has changed because when I try to install my Vette Essentials short shift boot, the boot won't cover the bottom of the ****. It looks like the new **** was designed to have a ring of some sort screw into the bottom of the **** to attach the boot. Will a C6 shift boot work in a C5? How can I make this work?

Different **** styles and different leather boots. I took the stock C5 boot , gathered it up and tied it to the C6 **** with a small Zip Tie. Not the most elegant method, but more than functional for a mostly track car. There is a forum vendor - I think that it is Vette Essentials - that was making custom shift boots for just this application. Do a search, there have been several threads on this subject over the past several years.

I've just been through this. I hunted for two weeks. Absolutely no one in the aftermarket makes this twist lock collar. The only way I could make it work with my Redline boot, and look correct was to order the cheapest boot from GM Parts House that contained the collar.

That's what I was afraid of. Do you know if the GM boot that contains the collar will work with the metal shift boot retainer like this:

(That's what I currently have).

I have the same ring. It works but you need to keep the "little bent out feet" as close as possible to the edge of the folded boot.

When I did the C6 shifter in mine I used the C6 **** and screw but reused my boot. There was a write up on how to modify the C5 boot but I can't find it now. It involved carefully separating the glued leather used around the hole in the C5 boot. Trimming it back a bit. Turning it inside out around the C6 **** and using steel wire to attach the boot to the base of the ****. Turned out great. Looks stock with the C6 **** which I much prefer over the C5.

I found my boot and **** at Vette Essentials as mentioned above. Did not come with the screw for the ****. Was special order at stealership. Great quality on the boot and ****, easy install.
