We'll that digressed quickly. If it's alright with y'all I'd like to get back to the matter at hand. What are the opinions on "tunnel ram" intakes (like http://m.summitracing.com/parts/hly-...FYRQ7AodhUAAGw) as opposed to the typical ls intake?
Hey guy, feel free to privately email coSPEED2 and he'll take care of you real well and knows his stuff. We do this for a living, so we gotta make sure we know what we're talking about.
I am about to do engine mods to my C5. My car will be heading into the tranny shop next week to take care of the bad 3-4 clutch pack. So I told the garage to go a head and up grade it to stage 1 (up to 550 RWHP) with a 2000rpm saturday night special torque converter. After that venture, I want to do something to the engine. I have a CAI and Corsa X-pipe with the Corsa exhaust on it already. I wondered what steps would you guys do next. Money is not a huge issue, but I have to piece mill it, or my wife will have my a$$. I am ashamed to say that, but its better than the alternative.........sitting on the porch with the big D-papers in hand watching her drive away in my vette. I was thinking a FAST intake, then again, I like the sound of cam. The x-pipe and exhaust did not produce the sound I was looking for. My other C5, I had a billy boat/basani xpipe/exhaust system and it sounded better, but of course the corsa setup does not have the cabin sound. If you were me, what would be your next move?
@shane....... headers would probably make yours too loud. get a nice exhaust friendly cam and get some lope through those pipes. try the callaway honker or dare i say vararam for a mini-induction. no sense in going fast or TB without some more vacuumy heads, stock heads breathe fine for what theyre worth. looked into your trunion and valve-train????

I am not so sure about vacuumy heads or saturday night special converters, but we can spec a cam for any occasion. As far as intakes, the Halltech wins hands down. Esp with the complimentary beehive shroud. Hard to beat it.
There are so many header options and yes of course they will make everything louder and artificially increase valvetrain noise like a tuning fork, but the gains cannot be denied.
Cats sure help on some of the noise level and def the smell.
I stopped at a very reputable performance shop today that works heavily on corvettes, and they said a CAM plus all parts and heads done, plus dyno would run me about $2200 plus tax. They also suggested I get a set of long tube headers with high-flow cats and take out the corsa xpipe. that would be about $2000 more to accomplish that. I might have to rethink what I want to do. I am supposed to get the tranny done, which is going to cost around $2600, but maybe I don't need to stage it up to that. How much can a stock tranny take (RWHP)? Is it possible to rebuild a tranny back to stock specs and add a 2000 rpm torque converter? The performance shop said the cam would add around 60 horses, and I think I have around 375-380 now with the corsa and cai (given that stock is 350). I am sorry to ask so many questions, you guys are the experts here, and I value the opinions of fellow vette owners. I know shops are in business to make a living I understand that, but I would like to do things with a little more knowledge, particularly when it's dealing with my hard earned money. Thanks again guys....
A 2000 rpm tc will be stock. 2600/2800 is the lowest you would normally go. This is not an SBC. They can take 3000-3600 (depending on whom sets them up) and be really streetable.
The headers alone cost around 1500-2k depending on brand. We can set you up an entire package including tuning options, but if you cannot install it yourself, you will have to find a reputable company. Possibly not them as they seem to want to charge the corvette tax. You dont NEED headers, but they sure help out alot. The stock trans power capabilities all depends on the age of the trans, how often the fluid was changed, and how well it was taken care of. The converters for the vettes are somewhat unique so they are a tad pricey.
