My 2000 locked up and would start, but when you put it in gear it would die, which I would think is normal to keep you from trying to drive the car with it locked. Now the great dealership is trying to tell me it may take longer to fix, since it dies. I told him I think it is a saftey device that keeps you from driving the car if the colum is locked. He replies well the tech is not sure and he will see when he gets it put back together. The tech was supposed to start on my car this morning 1st thing and it is not 12:00pm and he is still not finished with the colum lock. Told him it was about an hour job by the GM book.
Then he says that is just a guideline and that it sometimes takes longer. I told him an hour job should not take 5 hours to do. If I ever get my car back from this place it will never see it's service dept. again.
So my question is does anyone know for sure if they are supposed to die if you try and drive it with the colum locked?

That is for sure, but at least this is over with I drove my car home. I picked it up at 3:00pm. It only took them 7 hours to do a 1 hour job. This will be the last time my car ever goes to this dealership again.
I told the service writer when he said it would be ready at 3:00 that if it was not ready I wanted another tow truck to take my car to a different dealership. He assured me it would be ready.
3 days for something that is in the book as taking .8 hours is a little to long. Also when they tell you it will be ready at a certain time they need to meet that time. I was 1st told it would be ready on Friday, then Monday morning, then right after lunch, then 3:00pm. So that had plenty of time.
I think the problem is that they did not know what they were doing. With the colum locked and you try and drive it, it would die. They told me they think the colum lock is fixed but they had not looked into the dieing problem. So that leads me to believe that did not have a clue as to what they were doing. Now the trim at the windshield on the drivers side is lose and there is a rattle. So guess it goes back to the shop to get that fixed. Only this time it will go to a different shop.
Yep at it's finest. Also forgot that when I picked up the car there were three large bird droppings on it. One on the front drivers side hood, one on the top and one on the rear fender. Took some soaking and Zaino to get them off. Nice they take such good care of our cars when they are there.
