Default 2001 Z06 Transmission Problem

Hello, I am new to the forum and need some help with my C5 Z06 Tranny. My car has just under 106000 miles, and I am the 4th owner, so who knows how it was driven before me. I have never tracked it, just taken on road for a cruise or nice back roads for driving pleasure...

I was driving in cruise at 60MPH in 6th gear and tapped the accelerate on cruise to 62 mph when something gave out and the vehicle acted as if it were in neutral. I downed to 5th, same thing...then to 4th and it engaged. I finished driving home, but when I tried going into reverse it would just grind.

I placed vehicle in reverse, then started the engine, but when I release the clutch it grinds. If in neutral and started I cannot get it into reverse. 5th and 6th gear grind when I release the clutch from a stop. 1st thru 4th still work well.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I suspect a rebuild is necessary, but thought I'd see if an expert can give some advice.

Is it better to have rebuilt or purchase a new tranny? Any service/product recommendations are greatly appreciated. I am in Lompoc, CA.

Thanks in advance

Pete

It sounds like you sheared the splines between the counter shaft and the extension shaft. It might be cheaper to purchase a fully built unit outright since you do have high mileage. Give us a call if you like to discuss your options.

Maddawg,
It typically helps to include your city and state in your personal details that get shown underneath your avatar. That way, members and vendors who are close by can offer their assistance.
