Default need help with rear diff..

I was changing seals and the passenger side was smoothe but the driver side is giving me hell. Thanks to mark at vette nuts I got a new side cover since I broke the last one. any way I got the cover off the driver side and I noticed these 2 spacers one skinny and one a 1/4 inch thick hanging loosely on the shaft. I was trying to find a pic of it but having no luck. just wanted to know if those spacers are suppose to hang there or what? going to take a break tonight before I start working on it after I leave the recruiters office tomorrow morning. The car is stock 3:42 ratio.

they are probably the shims that go behind the bearing from the old side cover. You may need to reset the backlash and bearing preload with a new side cover.
