Default CAI and rain/water

Hi folks, for the past day or so I've sifted through about two dozen posts regarding CAI for my 2003 z06. I have it narrowed down to the following:

Zip Tie Mod with K&N Panel Filter - This option is the most effective and from what I've seen the gains are on par with the aftermarket units.

SLP Blackbird - This is basically an aftermarket filter that still utilizes the stock tubing between the filter and the throttle body. The price tag of $240 for nothing more than a filter is pretty eye opening.

Haltech Venom II - This has a similar filter to the SLP Blackbird but it also uses a plastic tube with a larger cross section then the stock unit. >$400 is absurd IMHO for what you get.

From the dyno testing I've seen, there doesn't look to be a significant power difference between the three on an LS6.

My question pertains to rain. Are any of these any more or less susceptible to rain/water? From the way they all mount, I would think that rain risk would be nearly identical between all three? Anyone know?

I did order a hood seal today regardless of which one I end up going with but truth be told, I am leaning towards the zip tie mod.

PS: Please don't bring up Vararam... Too many fitment complaints, long installation time, steep cost...

None of them will have issues with rain. I've had a Halltech Stinger on my Vette for most of its 10 years and never had a problem and mine has seen its fair share of rain.

agreed, the intake is still under the hood and above the radiator shroud which will keep water out of the filter and even if a few drops gets around the hood and get on the filter its not going to do anything to cause any damage.

You'll be fine. None of them will have an issue with rain.

Callaway Honker. Yes it is more than the others, but worth it (with no fit issues).

Have driven in heavy FL rain often, and never an issue.

The Halltech will make the most power out of all of them. We have installed and ran them on so many vettes, they are great. Sometimes that price also includes the Beehive shroud, which is another great piece to keep the cool air where it needs to be.

Is the Halltech a CAI?

It (and the Blackwing) do not appear to draw cold air, but instead draw hot air from under the hood.

The Halltech does draw in cold air yes. If I had a scan handy, I would show you.
Looks can be deceiving.

If you open up the fog light surrounds you end up with the same basic effect.

HAI NATION! LOL

Guys, all three of these should be a "CAI" from my understanding.
