Nominal fuel pressure should read 58 psi (~). The fuel pressure regulator is inside the filter itself.

Yes, or as close as it can. It may vary somewhat +/-, but 58 is the nominal value.

That's low. Maybe try changing the filter regulator first? Definitely cheaper.

If you do change pump, get the Racetronix pump upgrade unit along with the direct wire hook up harness. It's a direct plug n play and the pump will then get it's power directly from the alternator terminal. I highly recommend; it's all quality stuff. No jury rigging.

I have a pressure gauge at the rail. I typically see around 66 PSI with a full tank of fuel that will gradually drop to 58 PSI as I get close to an empty tank.

When I did my mods last summer (FAST 102 and new fuel rails) my 98 (it has the return line on fuel) required my mechanic to install a new regulator and we put a mechanical guage on it at the same time (to make it easy for him to adjust the pressure). It maintains 58psi at idle.

Ok , so the filter , only provides the return of the fuel , the pump must have some kind of regulator on it ? to maintain the proper pressure ?

No, the fuel pump just happily pumps away and the regulator in the filter manages how much fuel is returned to the tank in order to maintain proper fuel pressure.

on a stock vehicle it doesn't matter. Once you start adding noticeable power it will become an issue.

most people also don't have an issue with drivetrain shake caused by the trans floating between the torque tube and the diff but that doesn't mean it isn't an issue for others....

Certainty people can have issues with non stock cars but that doesn't mean it is a design issue esp in regards to fuel pressure a the rail. Never heard of floating between the tube and diff. You stated: "****** design really, doesn't allow for proper fuel pressure regulation at the injectors where it needs to be...."
