Default Header Bolts

Got some LGs pro LTs on order. I'm concerned over stock exhaust manifold bolt removal. Any tips on removal? Should the engine be warm or cold?
I'm also getting the LG locking bolts. I'm not sure if they're bolts or studs. Can't find them on the LG web site.

Been looking for threads on header bolts but can't find much.

Ive changes DOZENS of intake manifolds and never once had an issue with the exhaust manifold bolt removal. Remove them COLD..

If it were me, I would spring for a set of STUDS.

Off topic but,, I installed a set of ARP Head Studs when I did my heads/cam up grade and MAN OH MAN what a pleasure it is to remove and reinstall the heads. Ive also seen too many people strip out the threads in the block when they torque down the two shorter outside head bolts! Head studs help prevent that issue.

Same goes for the header bolts. Once you install the studs, there is much les a chance that you will ever damage the threaded hole in the head from pulled threads.

I have also successfuly reused the old OEM exhaust manifold bolts that are removed to install the headers without any issues. The TORQUE Value for the header/manifold bolts is 11 ft/lbs. first pass, 18 ft/lbs second pass.

+1 for studs. They are better in almost every respect for just a small premium.

I use the 3.1L grand prix exhaust manifold studs on everything. They appear stockisk and haven't failed me with any NA, Nitrous, or FI combo and they aren't that expensive

The ARP stainless LS studs are about $100 for the set. We do have stainless bolts with washers also or the reg 8760 black oxide bolts as well from ARP that are common upgrades. The best thing about the studs are the ability to hang the gasket without having to do a funny rain dance to get them to line up right.

These. I loved the convenience having to remove the headers about 5 times now. Wish I'd have gone with head studs, too, as Bill suggests.
