Default Starter question

After reading up on broken starter mounts I have decided maybe I need to replace mine before it becomes an issue. For those that have replaced theirs, have any of you used the high-torque version that doesn't have the nosecone on it?If so,have you had any issues with it?Just wondering if the design would allow more deflection of the starter gear on the flywheel and cause accelerated wear on the flywheel teeth. Not the easiest starter to change so I want to do it right the first time.

The issue with the block breaking is related to the starter mounting design and not the type of motor. Just make sure it has the equivalent starter mounting boss design as the 2 long bolt design and you should be fine.

Here is a question that I cannot seem to find the answer to from CF forum search or even going through GM/AC Delco part numbers.

What is the GM, and the AC Delco part numbers for the replacement 2 long bolt starter that fits the 97-2004 C5

I stopped by a Chevy local dealer yesterday and got the following part numbers:

97-2001 = ACDelco - 323-1063 GM# 10465385
02-2004 = ACDelco - 323-1450 GM# 10465547

I was unable to see either starter at the dealer for comparison, but looking at every picture available I could find on websites both look exactly the same 1 long bolt, 1 short bolt, and some sites list the 2002-2004 version as the replacement for the old version.

Is the 2002-2004 starter the 2 long bolt version or not?

The one I am looking at has the correct mount with 2 long bolts. It just doesn't have the nosecone on it.I didn't know if this would be a problem and maybe allow too much play on the flywheel engagement.

I just received the one I ordered. It is the reinforced design but didn't come with a bolt. It looks nice and came with a test sheet but the box also says Made in China.

Anyone know what standard type of bolt to use? I could probably get from dealer for $10 if I have to.

The Silverado starters are the ones w 2 long bots, look up this for a pic. I have seen the same GM starter w both pics, probably just using an old photo. I just ordered another brand because I have been having starting issues, but I would not replace if it wasn't bad. I think the likelyhood of a block breakage is very slim, and a lot of work to change.

Here is a pic of the difference. I received my starter today, it included 1 long bolt, and I will reuse the other.

Thanks for the update. Let us know how the install went. If you can provide the place you purchased your starter and the part number that would be appreciated.

Found a pair of bolts with that part number for $6 shipped. Thanks.

Now to find someone to install it.
