Hi members, the vette continues to have tight steering. on the display in the instrument panel it lit up "competition drive" (I think mode was at the end but not sure). would someone let me know what that means and if it could indicate why the steering is tight?
Forget the electrics and be a mechanic. My 98 did the same thing after having the rack off. My mechanic friend swore that there was no air in the system and I needed a new pump. I jacked up the front enough to get both wheels off of the ground. I then put the key in the switch so the wheel would unlock and turned the wheel furiously lock to lock around three dozen times with the cap off of the PS reservoir. I had my wife look in the reservoir as I did this an she said it looked like a volcano erupting ( all kinds of air in the system). I then drove it down the road. It was better but still not 100%. I then got mad and started the motor sitting still and turned the wheel both ways lock to lock and held it tight in each locked position. After I turned the motor off I looked in the reservoir and the air bubbles continued for about 10 minutes. I then rechecked the fluid level and went down the road. The PS is perfect. It has been a week now and still works great.

Thank you. other members have said the same thing about the air. my mechanic swears there is no air in the system. I will try your method.
Your mechanic should not have taken your money and released the car when it wasn't right. I had the rack out of my car when I replaced the engine. No issues purging the system, works fine.
What brand steering rack did he install? A lot of rebuilds are crap. After all this time the air should have worked its way out. If there is still air in it, it should be noisy and you would see a lot of litte bubbles in the reservoir after you shut it off.
