Re: How do the C5s fair in crash testing? (KonaVette)
Well, im pretty impressed with the way the C5 endures a crash. I just got my car back from almost 19k worth of damage, and i walked away without a scratch. I hit a guardrail going backwards (from doing a 180 degrees at around 100mph) and hit at about 50mph. Pics here http://pages.sbcglobal.net/dpickering423/index.html

Maybee not all of us!!!! :D :D
Wow! You can barely tell that was a car, much less a Vette. I think it's pretty amazing from some of the above posts and pictures that the driver has walked away, much less with just scratches. While people joke me about driving a death trap now ('85 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE), I tell them that at least I will be driving a much safer car come 8/14/02! With the ABS, Active Handling, Traction Control, and air bags, I would think that it really is a relatively safe car that should help you avoid many accidents. Now, the higher the speed, the less help. Although, I notice how I have already started driving a little more conservatively around town to develop the habits which will carry over to driving the Vette. ;)

I wrote a post last month about a friend who was nailed on the passenger side by a Ford Excursion trying to beat a light. $13,000 in damage to the C5, and my buddy suffered a bruised knuckle on his middle finger. (I STILL thik he was "saluting" the guy who was gonna hit him..
Pretty safe car, in my view.

Wow, side impact! Nice to hear. What speed do you think? Was it a T-Bone on the passenger door? SUV also... Wow! Lucky!! I'd figure their bumper would be aimed at your head... or maybe my car is too low. ;)
Re: How do the C5s fair in crash testing? (MelloYellow)
I for one have been in a C5 while crash tested....It fairs very well! My freind flipped the car and we ended upside down. Neither of us had a scratch on us!!! BTW the car had 26K worth of damage, but we were ok.
Re: How do the C5s fair in crash testing? (jschell)
If memory serves correct, "All Corvettes Are Red" covered the crash tests that the C5 mules went through as they were testing the new hydroframes, unique to the C5. At the NCM, they even have on display one of the mules that was tested (I might be able to find a pic).
Bottom line, what I remember is that the results were pretty impressive.
Re: How do the C5s fair in crash testing? (Kent1999)
Google came up with this:
Based on consultant Joe Kimmel's equations, here are the vehicles that are least and most likely to roll over during an accident:
Best car: Bentley, Rolls-Royce, 1%
Best minivan: Honda Odyssey, 8%
Best pickup: Ford F350, 15%
Worst car: Toyota Echo, 21%
Worst minivan: VW Eurovan, 18%
Worst pickup: Toyota Tacoma, 34%
Re: How do the C5s fair in crash testing? (MelloYellow)
Mello, it was passenger side, just in front of the door, but a square impact. And, an Excursion is like a tricked-out school bus, as far as it's size goes. No idea on speed, but the speed limit there is 45, and the guy was trying to beat a red light...so..not slow. My friend was very impressed (and grateful) with his C5's ability to take a big hit, and protect him.
Glad to hear everyone was ok. Good that it hit the front right 1/4. I'm scared of direct side T-bone impacts into the door. But with our handling and power I'd like to think we could control some of where the impact will take place.

Well I cant tell you about the C5 but I was in my old C4 when I got into a minor accident. Seems very safe but cost a lot of $$$ I can assume the same with the C5.
