My rocking drivers seat is not covered by any TSB. There’s no replacement parts outside of the original, faulty equipment for my VIN # (dealer checked again today).
Sooo, my seat will rock forever???
Is that how it’s supposed to be???
Doesn’t GM owe me new seats…or something???
Anybody got any ideas for a course of action?
I’ve called that customer support # in the manual before to register my complaint but that’s like putting a message in a bottle and throwing it in the ocean.
TSB #02-08-50-002 "Driver Seat Movement During Acceleration and Braking (Replace Adjuster Assembly)". It applies to 1997 - 2001, and 2002 (built prior to VIN breakpoint 25106379) Corvettes with power seats (RPO AG1 or AG2).
The TSB states to replace the seat adjuster assembly with a new part released to correct the condition. The new part numbers are 88953528 (power driver seat without memory) and 88953529 (power driver seat with memory).
document ID# 868514. If your dealer can not find the 02-08-50-002
It doesn't mention MY seat (AR9).
Those replacement parts don't 'line up' on my seat. - my luck.
Welcome to the club. As my car has no warrenty, I now use a 2x4 behing the seat until I can find an aftermarket seat like sparco that has an adjustable back, and make my own brackets!!
I have a set of Corbeau A4's (might as well be brand new) for sale or trade for sport seats and your factory brackets will work FYI (if you have sport seats and they are broken I will still trade)
Second, I recently had this problem in my Z06.....my problem was easy enough to fix. I removed the seat and where the bracket bolts to the seat the nuts had come loose.
It is kinda difficult to get to, but I believe it is a 1/2" or a 10mm can't remember......anyhow........all they needed were tightning!
You cannot tell just by unbolting the seat and trying to rock it back and forth....it won't rock once the seat is unbolted! The way I checked was:
1. Move the seat all the way forward
2. Unbolt the seat
3. Set on the ground as if it were in my car.
4. Had my girlfriend stand on the back of the bracket (the bracket will be exposed in the rear if you moved it forward before unbolting)
5. While she was standing on the bracket and I was sitting in the seat....I had her push the seat forward (to see if it would still rock)
Guess what................it did. So I knew there was something loose. I tightened it up. Repeated the 1-5 and never had the problem again!
I hope this helps.....your problem may be different!
zOsense - From what I've read, the problem is a weak plastic worm gear of some sort. Not something the regular guy could fabricate. The replacement parts have a stronger worm gear.
It's fortunate for me that I use the seat in the 'all the way back' position so it doesn't affect me but if my wife or anybody else drives the car...
This question has been asked a number of times. My guess is that while the C5 is in production, noone can make a new part. Hopefully, when the C6 comes out, some smart aftermarket vendor will come up with improved (metal?) gears.
FWIW, my car is after the VIN breakpoint, and theoretically has the new and improved seat tracks, and my seat rocks. The part that really annoys me is that the 86 Buick Park Avenue I inherited from my father has power seats that are solid as a rock. And neither of us are (were) small people. This is one defect I will never understand.
Mine just started rocking this Summer. Part # 88953529 ADJUSTER is $521.64 through gm parts direct with shipping. At that price I can live with the rocking.
Does the TSB cover both the driver and passenger seats? They both seem to rock on my 98 coupe. I took the car into the dealer and reported the problem, but they said nothing was wrong. Does anyone have / know how to get a copy of the TSB so I can ....ummmm ... gently induce the dealer to fix the problem? I have tried several searches, but cannot turn up more than the TSB # and I am looking for the full text.
