Default A good option for front speaker replacment

I have been working on my stereo for a little while as it didn't work well at all when I first purchased my C5.

As many discover replacing what was the factory Bose speaker system is a bit of a challenge, my situation was even a bit stranger still as it seems the previous owner cut the Bose system in half (not cleanly) and jammed a dual voice coil sub in the bottom part and attached it poorly with basic wood screws. There was a lot of extra weight there and all that was working was the mid-range Bose component and it sounded terrible.

Looking for a replacement I stumbled upon these
speaker plates speaker plates
for $21. They fit great, mounted a 6.5" speaker perfectly. It nearly looks like a factory piece.

The subs I pulled out were nice, I am working on a better solution for those in the back.

Anyway I thought I would share in case someone else is reworking the stereo.

Thanks for the pictures. They really tell a story of a do it your self guy with low skills, or a car stereo salesman with the same small audio understanding and a big mouth.

I admire you industry. I know the stock stereo is a little whacked, but it works well enough for me, for fun listening, and the car is loud.

I figured the factory stereo was designed mostly to not blow up the speakers because it certainly has the cornball sound of the usual car radio. THat design goal is cool with me, I wouldn't want GM to exceed their audio abilities and screw things up with some bright idea that needs to be fixed later on , probably a couple of times.

My personal audio upgrade was to turn off the volume compensation circuit, and that is all. I put a more sincere effort into my home stereo, it kind of highlights the limits of audio in a car, and vinyl is not car friendly anyway.

Speaking of space, you might know this, but some do not. If you can find the resonance frequency of the woofer in free air, usually from the manufacturers' specs, you can consult an audio design guide to give you the correct size for the speaker box. Then you can figure it out from there to at least get close to the required area. This will give you a linear response without some frequencies resonating out more than others when driven at the same voltages.

Of course, if you just want thump, just glass the driver in where ever , that's what the dub cars do in the TV builds.

Very nice. I haven't even considered what I'm gonna do in the doors yet. Looks like a good solution for mounting components.
