Default Water pump replacement

Took my 03 Z06 to dealer for some routine stuff and was told that water pump is leaking and needs to be replaced. Dealer says $800 and is supposedly trustworthy on Vettes. What do you all think?

It shouldn't be more than $350 parts and labor...Unless they charge $300/hr...
You can buy a new pump for less than $150....It's super easy to change out yourself...

I checked with another dealer: Pump with gaskets, new design inlet and belts comes to $460 plus $190 for labor = $650, a bit cheaper

As said above, it takes simple tools and is a straight forward job....belts, the water pump, gaskets, and DexCool and distilled water.
Do it yourself...save money and have a feeling of accomplishment.

I replaced mine with the updated C6 version of the pump. You could do it yourself and save a little money. Without knowing your skills/tools/comfort level it might be worth having someone do it for you.

It is a straight forward process but you are going to have to drain/dispose of the antifreeze(and spill a little in the process). Then you are going to need to make sure you get all of the air out of the system. It will take you a few hours as a novice. And any time I touch the car I bleed.

If you like to be hands on it is rewarding to do stuff on your own, but there is something to be said for saving the time and effort to get it done.

Search Amazon for:
ACDelco 89018052 Water Pump Assembly

It is supposed to be slightly lighter with the smaller pulley on the front. What I used.

Did you confirm that the pump is actually leaking? If they want to gouge you for that much, who's to believe you actually need one?

My first question would be why do you need a new pump? Show me. Then I'd do it myself, if you able to, and save a ton of money. That is truly a rip-off price.

for that much you could get an electric waterpump lol... I agree just do it yourself, gain the knowledge, and save your money... or use the money you aren't paying them for another mod, that's how I justify my spending sometimes
