Mods question..........
I have know about this site for a couple of years now. But just got my C5 this week. I sold my 99GT and bought a 99 Coupe MN6.
So what should my first mods be?
I am guessing exhaust but what? I ran a "no-cats 2 chamber Flowmaster, with shorty headers" on my GT so noise isn't a problem and passing emissions isn't either but I want something a little different on my Vette. The headers were a pain in the a*% and only got me about 2hp. Is that any different on the LS1? Or can I run Long Tubes on it?
I noticed that alot of you change the intake. Yes? No?
Gears? I think I got 3.42's right? I had 4.10's in my GT, is that an option for my Vette?
Heads Cam changes. I noticed that alot of you guys have. Something us modular guys didn't have an aftermarket for.
I just read some guys shifter install that sounded gritting...I think I will save that mod for a little bit...lol
Thanks in advance for the advice.
Clint
Welcome to the other side....;)
The long tube headers "generally" make better HP than the shorties. Then do the high flow cats, or no cats...and then it all depends on your preference of sound from the rear on the mufflers.
Intake mods are one of the best mods you can do for the C5.
I am not sure but I think you can get 4.XX gears for the C5.
Lots of head and cam options...great way to make loads of HP.
I just got done installing my B&M Ripper shifter tonight and it is AWESOME. It feels like a different car. The install was a snap, besides some spilled mocha the previous owner left me... :mad.
Good luck and have fun!! Welcome to one of the best forums ever.
Exhaust is for sound, not HP. The stock exhaust flows pretty well.
H/C or SC for power.
Stroker or all-bore for lots of power.
Combined the two for lots and lots of power.

Any perticular brand of intake that you guys favor over the other? And I guess where is the best place to get it?

You have your engine feeder and bottom breather intakes. The engine feeders take in air from the engine compartment while the bottom breathers require cutting a hole in the factory radiator shroud (plastic and easily replaceable) for cold air from the outside. You risk sucking water up through your intake with a bottom breather if you drive the car in lots of rain. This has happened to people on the forum but for most, people have lots of great experiences with the Vortex and Halltech bottom breathers.
I have a Donaldson Blackwing intake. Probably the most popular engine feeder you can get. There is a sale at both Exit28 Motorsports and A&A Engines for this intake. Both are forum vendors. Check out the "Mall" at the top of your screen.
Good to have a Ford convert on the board, you will like this side much better. :D :D And welcome to the board, this place is fantastic. :)
